Iški Vintgar and Sveti Lenart (Krvava Peč)

Because a strong wind was forecast for today, we decided to go on a tour that mostly runs in shelter. From home in Iški Vintgar we set off on the path that led us through the gorge of Iški Vintgar to the confluence of Zala and Iška (Vrbica). We continued towards Krvava Peč and from there to the top of Sveti Lenart. From Krvava Peč to the top, however, the wind was blowing, which increased the feeling of cold (in the gorge complete calm). We've hiked the trail several times already, just started elsewhere. I'm wondering how many bears you met, as they swarm there—verified very close. In summer we often camp by Iška stream and feed stream crayfish; they crawl from the water just on the touch of water and meat. We've also noticed that marmots or even beavers feed on them, as we've seen both animals there. Lp, Vanja P.S., on Sunday we were on Špičastem stražičču aka Špička, nice view all the way to Cerkniško Lake. Start in Menišija aka Begunje. Top has logbook and stamp.

We didn't notice any bear on the path. Maybe it wasn't ready for a photo with us and took off.

Well, this week they took one out, but apparently others were waiting for him, and they had also fed him diligently before

This path tempts me too for tomorrow if there's no rain. Is it feasible to set off on this path when it's so wet, and is return via another path or road to the starting point possible? Thanks for the answer.

The path crosses some short steep slopes, where more caution is needed when wet but the steepest parts are secured. More slippery on leaves that cover the path in spots. No descent to Iški Vintgar starting point is possible via the road walked in the upper part.

On Sunday I met a BEAR on this path, so don't go alone. It was more of a cub than not, but mom probably threw it out of the den, its own not yet. IT WASN'T PLEASANT, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT WAS VERY CLOSE AND QUITE LOUD.

What about some picture of the bear? Did you meet it on ascent or descent?

How is it with bears in winter? Do they have hibernation or are they even more dangerous then?

Principally they should sleep in winter ... but bears are no longer what they used to be ...

Met him on the descent, believe me there was no time for a picture, maybe only with the phone, it was closer at hand, but then you don't think about it. Then in your head only: RUN;RUN;RUN.

Today we walked the path described by Ester and Tadej, interesting path, very well marked. Rain started when we sat in the car to go home. Nicely spent Sunday. Thanks for the tip.

And my contribution to today's tour. We started very early - before five in the morning, we were already at the starting point. The starting point is some thirty meters from the sign for Visoko. That two-hour path to Krvava Peč is marked. Initially, it is a narrow path that tall grass tries to hide a bit. Then the path leads us to a wide gravel forest road, which brings us to the village Krvava Peč. But one needs to watch the marks, which hide or are faded. Otherwise, we tried with some unmarked paths to shorten, but the paths got lost and then there was off-path to the road. Don't try this yourselves, because you might scare some bear who has his territory here. We saw his tracks several times. Surprisingly quite a large village Krvava Peč, which per data is almost without inhabitants. We did see one farm woman and her cows. At the start of the village is a beautiful renovated Veterans' home. From the village, we climbed to the hill above the village. Here dwells St. Lenart - a cute church and a small weekend settlement. We even chatted with two weekenders. It was nice. Into this peace and quiet, a hiker rarely ventures, so let's respect it.

Today I went on the path from the Dom in Iški Vintgar to the confluence of Zala and Iška, but returned along the bed of Iška. Already at the start, I met quite a few hikers who told me that they had to turn back, as the path is impassable due to fallen trees. I didn't believe them and went to check anyway. Soon after fording the Iška and as the path climbs steeply, at the top I ran into a mass of fallen trees. It is not just a few trees, but by my estimate at least 50 trees down. With much effort, I pushed through this thicket anyway and I don't regret it, as a wonderful trip awaited me further on. Otherwise, the path is in good condition, the cables are almost new, so I hope that the path markers of PD Krim will remove the trees soon. Until then, some notice that the path is impassable due to fallen trees would be very welcome.
