Marx or Zagi I would ask for explanation and path description to Ivanščica from Prigorec via Prekrižje. They say this path is the easiest approach to the top, but also the longest. How about markings? Path crosses several forest paths and intersections not marked with direction signs. To the top I usually go via Konj, down either via Mrzljak, once I went via Pionir /very strenuous descent, not recommended/ This info I got from hikers who went via Prekrižje. If you have more detailed path description and info on markings, please provide. greetings

Zdomec! The path via Prekrižje starts at the parking lot at the end of Prigorec village. From parking go east. First almost unnoticeable branches unofficial path Temna dol / along the stream. Then at next junction left down goes path to Šumi spring and ski slope, sharp right through cornfield Pionir. For Prekrižje go slightly right into forest. After entering forest the path starts to gently ascend. On the right side along the path there will be one small cliff. Path is widening all the time, surface after ascent becomes somewhat gravelly. After some ascent the path levels (here left branches down). Now you're on flat forest road (surface earthy again) about 15 minutes. When track becomes muddy in places you approach large junction usually with some fallen trees and sawdust. From there right and here short time very steep ascent. After sharp right bend soon to junction which is somewhat poorly marked (until now marks rare but can't miss). Here go right up (seems should be left). Soon to important junction Prekrižje after which the path is named. Here from left comes path from Hama, Pokojca, Budinščine and Donje Selnice. We go right and now in gully, first time opens view to Zagorje. About 15 minutes further next junction where path from Belec village joins. Here you turn west (until now from Prekrižje south). Now another half hour to top. At some point from right two variants of Pionir path (unnoticeable as not marked anymore). After these junctions wider track finally left (well marked). From here two minutes to exit from forest to abandoned ski slope and two more to top. Prekrižje path is well marked and I don't believe you can miss it. Indeed easiest from north side. Yes I often use it for descent.

Thanks Marx, hope I understood everything. As soon as opportunity arises, I'll try this path for ascent.

11.01.2015. After a year again on Ivanščica. One quick early morning ascent, but still crowd on path and especially in hut. Up Konj, descent Prekrižje. Snow line around 900 m.a.s.l. Up to there snow occasional, but ground very muddy and slippery. Snow mushy wet and nasty. On Prekrižje path more snow and deeper here. One more info - in hut possible to pay also in euros!

Today (28.11.2015) ascent to Ivanščica but this time from south side, from Belec/Juranščina. Up the steepest and most demanding marked path, via Brani, down via Kopanja path. Snow starts around 600 m.a.s.l. and very nasty... lower wet, higher slippery and icy... Bunch of southern paths officially start at church in Belec village... but from there to junction in Juranščina village half hour on asphalt and recommendation to park in Juranščina. In Pasarićeva hut at Ivanščica top now, after 20-year "rule" of warden Dragec, new warden. Don't know if still possible to pay in euros (Dragec now warden at Majer hut under Oštrcgrad...)

27.12.2015. The final ascent this year was to Ivanščica. Up Konj, down Pionir. With my friend Filip, we were in running form and the ascent took just a little over an hour. Down despite leg pains in under 45 min... Weather exceptionally warm for this time of year, snow only a little at the top, good and quite far view... Checked - in Pasaričeva hut it is possible to pay in euros.

06.03.2016. Ascent to Ivanščica. Up Pionir, down Konj. With me Cviko. On Ivanščica there is quite some snow and it is wet, slippery and very nasty. Occasionally over half a meter. Both paths are well trodden, but on Pionir there are very high snow drifts and that on the part called Legesičina (At the end of the steep ascent when the path becomes easier traverse before exit to Prekrižje path).

Yesterday we retirees of the mountaineering section at PD Škofja Loka - we call ourselves Četrkovci, who dare a bit longer and higher, went for the first time this year to our Croatian neighbors. We went on a tour to Ivanščica-Ivančica-1060m peak above Krapina - that's Krapina-Zagorje county. Over the border at Zavrč-maybe wrong, because we were delayed over half an hour at border, which messed us up later. As you may know this peak has many starting points. We chose Mrzljak. It's a marked path that brings to prominent Ivanščica top in about two hours. Known for the story of Ivančica, legend recorded by famous Croatian writer and eight stations along this path. Text burned on wooden plaques. Ivanščica itself boasts interesting flora and fauna. Nice to visit the area in summer. Ivanščica is popular excursion spot for nearby larger towns-Krapina, Lepoglava and last but not least Varaždin. Boasts two transmitters, many viewpoints, has also 10m high lookout tower we can climb. Hut was already closed at that time-open all summer-I think now only open weekends. Up here was also end of ski slope, long abandoned-no ski lifts visible anymore, except that wheel-turntable at top. Now ski slope top serves as take-off for paragliders-at least supposed to. Lots of benches and tables up there for pleasant rest and snack. Up there waited president of nearby PD and escorted us to their hut-Belecgrad. To there it's full two hours walk. We took some shortcuts as we were in a hurry. They cooked us tasty bean stew with sausage. Drinks very cheap. To hut even possible to drive small bus with which they somehow shuttled us several times to settlement where famous church of St. Mary of Snow is. Back to border crossing at Rogatec, which turned out shorter route. Arrived in Škofja Loka only at 10pm.

Dear Velkavrh, a little clarification. Ivanščica is located on the border of Varaždin County from the north side, starting point for ascent is the town Ivanec and Lepoglava, and Krapina-Zagorje County from the south side, starting point is Belec, Lobor and Budinščina. Krapina is not under Ivanščica at all, it is far to the west under the mountain Strahinjščica. Mt. hut Pasaričeva kuća on the top is open all year round only on weekends and holidays.

Today, 04.11.2024, on Ivanščica. Up the Pionir path, which is no longer marked but still nicely trodden and always popular among hikers. Down via Konj.

Roe deer was from Ivanščica. You have nicely explored all that over a couple of days, but are you collecting HPO points?

As much as I follow you, you are quite active across the border and would already have some.
