Jalovnik and Kobilja glava

14 days ago I wanted to go via Jalovnik to Kob. glava and back to the village Sela. The trail that leads steeply up directs you towards the west and after a while almost disappears. In the steep slopes I didn't see anywhere a trail that would lead upwards to the ridge.
Late hour and the wind discouraged me from searching.
Thanks for the answer.

You'll get answers to such questions sooner on other forums. mežikanje

From the bend on the road above Sela there's a path to Jalovnik (sign); after a while it disappears, no panic. You won't miss anything if you go straight across sometimes quite steep meadows and along ridges to the top. Great view. To Sela you can also return by another path, but you have to almost scout the hunters' path through the forest or have luck to meet the right person at the right spot who shows it to you. Good luck on the next try.

Thank you very much for the reply.
I myself have also decided to cut it boldly the second time.
And also this: the excellent contribution in PV-9 by B. Menciger impressed me.

Hello

I've seen questions about the path to Jalovnik on several forums already, which prompted me to try to explain the situation. There are several paths from the village Sela to Jalovnik. My favorite is the one that mostly leads through the forest and is the most suitable due to the general overgrowth of Jalovnik, but more about that later if there's interest.
From the already often-mentioned signpost, continue naturally along the ridge or the arranged path (singletrack) that brings us to the overgrown hayfields. When we reach the hayfields, there's a strip of bushes, but the path can be followed. After approx. 30 elevation meters or approx. 150 m, we reach the top-ridge called Kurnik. From Kurnik we have three options: one is along the hunters' trail, which by looking upwards leads along the left side over two or three valleys, then turns and takes us back over two or three valleys below the intermediate summit named Mlečni rob. To that point we can also reach via a poorly maintained and overgrown path directly along the ridge. We gain height quickly; the difficulty is the great steepness and overgrowth, with associated slipping on dry grass. The third option is a newly made path (spring 2008) that leads on the right side and is well traceable. All three paths join above Mlečni rob and lead us to the summit. On this ridge from Mlečni rob to the summit of Jalovnik, one needs to be careful since some old barbed wire can still be found somewhere; it's not critical, but still. The summit of Jalovnik is heavily overgrown and due to wild boars that ravaged it years ago somewhat harder to pass (too harsh expression). The summit and logbook are more in the direction towards Kobilja glava. From Jalovnik to Kobilja glava one goes along the ridge, and walking is orientationally not demanding.

Return to Sela is possible again in two ways. The first is descent to Lom planina and then by road to planina Temna brda and onward along the path to the start of the road that we left too early during the ascent at the sign for Jalovnik.
The second variant is wilder: in this case descend to the sunny side from any point on the ridge and keep right during descent, cross or follow quite a few hunters', animals' and who-knows-what other paths, but if we keep right we won't cross the path from the first variant, we can walk along it instead, and not along the ascent path, we will sooner or later reach Sela.
Sela - Jalovnik 1:45 - 2:15
Jalovnik - Kobilja glava 0:30 - 0:45
Kobilja glava - Lom 0:45 - 1
Lom - Temna brda - Sela 1:45 - 2:00
Plenty of enjoyment in uncovering Jalovnik, as from it you can see the sea (Tržič and part of the Tržaški bay, as well as the ring of Lower Bohinj Mountains, Krna ...

Yesterday we ascended from planina Stador to Kobilja glava and Jalovnik.
We descended along the unmarked ridge path that leads from Kobilja glava towards planina Lom.
Mostly sunny and slightly windy day nicely spent by Esther and Tadej.

Very nice pictures. Reliving moments from last year's trip. But I'd like to ask - does anyone know a path to Tolmin Triglav that would be similar in time and difficulty to the path to Kobilja glava from planina Stador?
Thanks for the answer.

Today, May 21st, I was on this circular path. The path is orientationally undemanding and enjoyable. The weather was nice and scenic. Let me say that to my great surprise the hut was open. The friendly hut keeper is always ready for a nice chat. On the way I met two more hikers, a flock of sheep and one GRAY LYNX. Let me say that now the pogačice are blooming and it's really a pleasure to walk among them. I recommend this path.

Planned Krasji vrh or planina Zaprikraj went down the drain due to the closed road to Drežnica. Clouds increasingly covering the surrounding peaks and late hour directed me to Kobilja glava.

A day that didn't promise much turned into a nice snowshoe experience on the vast ridge of Kobilja glava and neighboring Jalovnik. To get there, knee-grinding in a short but steep ascent from planina Stador, and at the end no less steep descent to planina Lom.
The road to planina Stador is cleared, further to planina Lom still some branches and stones, right before planina Lom a fallen tree. At the parking on planina Stador some snow, otherwise the road to planina Lom was dry. Noticeable amount of snow started at the signpost on top of Šprince. From the last hut I continued with snowshoes, as the footprints of predecessors were too scattered to follow. At midday the snow was wet and slippery, on the north side of the ridge it softened enough that walking with snowshoes was pleasant and crampons stayed in the backpack. The snowshoer who came from planina Lom said that in the morning the ridge was still icy. Also on the steep pasture above planina Lom the snow only softened late afternoon.

Today ascent from Podmelc over Jalovnik to Kobilja glava. Nice trip with great views in the upper part of the path to the lower Bohinj mountains, which at this time are really in contrast (partly still snowy) with the blooming trees you meet along the path. View from the top is something special.
Paths from Podmelc are easy to follow, there are signs and also some markers. The description by Jelena Justin - Z vlakom v hribe - helped.
I'll visit this mountain again.

Does anyone know if you can leave the car somewhere in Podmelc?

Of course you can, as long as there aren't too many. From Kneže to Podmelc, along the road it's possible to park in several places. Also at the starting point for Sopota waterfall, it's possible. Just need to make sure not to park blocking any path or yard nasmeh

Just before the compact village core you can park a couple of cars left by the road. Another option is to turn sharply right here back; narrow and steep asphalt road climbs steeply a few serpentines, higher up the last parking at end of asphalt under spruces. Nice forest path (road) brings us to two houses on road a bit below village Sela nad Podmelcem. Before village trodden trail directly along ridge over Jalovnik to K glava. Descent from top straight along ridge to planina Lom. From there return on easy path along contour over pl Temna brda back to Sela nad Podmelcem. Just as an idea mežikanjevelik nasmeh
