Belska Kočna – Jenkova planina – Mala Baba – Velika Baba – Storžek – starting point
At 7 we park the van among log storage sheds in front of the ramp in Belska Kočna. Log traffic is busy and we squeeze the car right into the corner so it's not in the way. Up the forest road into the hill and where possible, cut the switchbacks. At 8:20 we're at the hut on Jenkova planina. Short break, snack and on up the hill. Steep in the forest and soon we're in the rocks. Views gorgeous…Warm in the sun, deep in the valley frost visible on meadows where sun doesn't shine.
Soon on the ridge. Used to ridges and no trouble. Just caution needed as there's scree on path in places. Soon to Mala and then to Velika Baba. Windy on top and not too warm. Feed ptarmigans and enjoy sun. Descend and at saddle decide for Storžek. Climb "our way" to it and continue along ridge to cross on next lower peak. Return and descend secured path. Pegs on cable quite torn out, pulled, but doable. Sun already low and hurry to valley still far away. Few more "awkward" path sections and finally down. Foresters' work ending too and quite cold already. After 8 hours of walking we, satisfied after the successful tour, pack into the van. Stanko turns on heating and homeward via Pavličevo sedlo.
Nice tour we organized before forecasted weather worsening. In a few days (as Katja J. says) high mountain conditions completely different. …
