Yesterday we visited this “pointy” peak in Kemetgebirge (eastern Dachstein). We started in Gröbming, where we parked at the end of the village, right below the forest. For the first time we came across a marked, free parking lot intended only for hikers. We approached via the right variant over Säbelbodn and Zirmel, which is longer but gentler and nicer. Especially from Zirmel onwards, where everything is at hand on the ridge. From Gesäuse, neighbor of Grimming, the entire Totes Gebirge to Dachstein. And of course the entire other side of the valley (Low and High Tauern) to Großglockner and beyond. Towards the summit it is steeper and the path is equipped with hooks that we had already encountered on off-trail tours. On marked paths now for the first time. At the top, we wouldn't even talk about the view, because it is truly fascinating. There is little space at the top. Interesting is the off-trail ridge to the west, in which there is another lower two-thousander Mitterspitze. It is supposed to be difficulty II-III. We descended via the direct variant into the valley. Here too, from the top it is steep and equipped with hooks and below in the steep scree with a couple of old cables. We also climbed the lower neighbor Winterstein (1915), which is not secured. Then just straight down between pines, over smaller scree fields and through a mushroom forest into the valley. A beautiful tour in this area, with approx. 1360hm and just under 7h.
