Konjske police and Globoka konta

Yesterday (Sunday, 28 February, mostly on skis) from Stara Fužina along the road to Blato, then to Planina pri jezeru and further to the Razor valley below Kredo and Slatno and right across the Horse Ledges to the pass at the entrance to the Deep Gully. Back the same way.

The main problem of the trip was the curfew along with the unclear and unfriendly traffic regime in Stara Fužina, both of which took our precious morning time and energy. We changed into touring boots only around half past eight after half an hour of asphalt walking. Packed snow on the road to Planina Blato starts about two kilometers from the closed barrier, at the entrance to the Suha stream valley. Of course no problems to Blato, subtracting nearly seven kilometers of walking. The next good five kilometers first to Planina Jezero and further to Planina v Lazu was just a warm-up, seasoned with frozen hard snow. Where the steep path branches right to Planina Blato, the path was narrow and icy, with quite a steep drop below. So we put on crampons for a few tens of meters, the two guys ahead of us had crampons. Annoying spot was also the snow-covered and iced traverse in steep slopes above the lake, a few hundred meters beyond Planina pri jezeru.

The snow in Razor above Planina v Lazu was also hard, but ski tracks from a few days before were visible, when there was thaw even in shaded spots. At over 1700 meters (at the last little larch in the bottom of Razor) we turned right up to the Horse Ledges. Snow on the sunny slopes of the ledges was mushy, on some steeper spots a bit too much for ascent. We followed larches on some kind of terrace, which at the start is overgrown with several meters high dwarf pines and therefore extremely hard to pass in summer. Due to abundant snow this winter, of course no sign of bushes. So we easily made our way up the slope to the pronounced gully rising straight up. Through it to the pass, the antechamber of one of the most enchanting cirques I know - Deep Gully.

It was already late, the sun shone over the Vogels ridge casting exciting shadows on the slopes of this mysterious and lonely basin. From its antechamber at over 2000m only the lower part is visible. To the passage to the upper, hidden half is just half an hour, return less than an hour, which we couldn't afford. So we just stood there looking around. Without shrieking and gasping at the mighty scene, in pure silence and alone, just beyond the edge we sensed a herd of chamois crossing our route already on the ascent through the gully. And far below, like on a palm, the snow-covered Planina v Lazu. The western half of the alpine pasture was already in shadow. So it was quite cute to see a cluster of tiny human ants who found space for martinčkanje on the slope of the eastern side of Laz, where the sun was still holding.

The decision to return was cruel, but the exceptional ski down on thawing crust blew away all farewell sadness. One two three we were in Razor, a bit slower on hard and rutted snow to the end of the valley. Path to Planina Jezero goes quite up and down, at the top of one hillock we turned and bid farewell to the glittering Horse Ledges. Above them we sensed the Deep Gully, guarded by mighty Debeli vrh lit by setting sun. Path to Planina Blato seemed even icier than morning, but it went. Even faster we descended the road, rattling on frozen hard snow. We reached the valley already in twilight.

Marching on bare asphalt to the parking lot wasn't any highlight, but we endured. What elsenasmeh.
