Koran is a peak in the side ridge of Mrzla gora, which runs above Logarska dolina and Matkov kot, located between Veliki vrh and Savinjek. I headed there yesterday afternoon, shorter days required a sped-up ascent and short rest on the top, despite clear sky and nice autumn evening pics.. I climbed to the ridge from Matkov kot, on the same path described for Veliki vrh, then turned right (left Veliki vrh), or towards south. I followed Drago's warning about the left path towards Zabrložnica and went right on the ridge. Path goes through forest and is and isn't traceable, has some steep ascents and descents, with some harder parts (I), avoidances of too exposed situations on both sides of the ridge, very varied and suitable for curious pathfinders Summit is panoramic, views nice, only the ridge continuation towards Savinjek not visible. From ridge arrival to summit one hour walk.

On Thursday I visited again this interesting ridge above Matkov kot and Logarska dolina, but this time I tackled the ascent at a different spot than usual. After my first (upper) post about approach to Koran from Veliki vrh direction, Drago's hint and later his more detailed instructions on another more direct option didn't let me rest. Started from parking in Matkov kot and past hunters' hut continued on path towards Škaf, where the nicely visible forest steep from Koran or Savinjeka direction already showed up, which I later ascended. Follow marks to gully under mentioned section and climb it to end of rake on its left bank, where I enter forest on other side of gully. Steepness occasionally really considerable, terrain here and there demanding due to locally quite crumbly soil that offers no good hold, rocks and boulders on such base required caution as they loosened at slightest touch – sometimes seemed I triggered them just with a look Trees, their branches helped in ascent - at steeper slope also their roots. In lower part I also stumbled on salt lick, traces of its "users" accompanied me whole way. Also their "controllers" warned me with bleats whole ascent – almost exactly 10-minute intervals , which was good sign anyway, as on this "mild" terrain steeply above me I really wouldn't want surprised and scared quadruped... I myself triggered larger stone twice and listened to its crashing through forest for a while.. First chamois I spotted only a bit below ridge, shortly after also smaller herd which wasn't in mood for group photo Just below crumbly ridge section I turn left (north) and after two hours walking and root-climbing find myself on it. Continue north towards V. vrh, descend to notch, on next ascent thanks to GPS app realize I'm on Koran summit – so three years ago I was only on its rocky broken forepeak. Soon descend also to notch between Koran and forepeak and after more demanding traverse from below and above (rhododendron, broken towers) – climb also to it. From here on path known from before, this part still requires attention. Soon at saddle before V. vrh and branch/descent to rake leading to previously mentioned hunters' hut. (Upper) start of rake impassable to first bend due to new fallen trees, but instead gully to next bend nicely passable, no other major obstacles later. Still refreshment at water trough by hut and home. Drago, thanks for instructions, also thanks to Zlatko for his posts from these parts that helped me

Nice tour. Bravo. Nice feeling when you know after two hours of knee-grinding you'll stand on the ridge. And it's only up to you if from there left or right…

Yes, marks are for the one descending and there are quite a few. Next time take a little rest on such steep ascent and look back too best

Dolfe, thanks My direction or wish upon arriving at the ridge was determined by the compass that always points north especially the clock showing towards sunset

Djimuzl, if I understand your description right, you went roughly as I drew below? Maybe someone knows how access from Logarska dolina is? On map marked some path that brings quite high, just don't know what last part and access to ridge is like. p.s: no mistake, with finger on map making plans for summer, won't go there now.

From Logarska you have three accesses. First completely pathless from Plesnik along forest terrace right. Well visible from valley. Or start right at ridge beginning at church. Second from Dom planincev. There path at start, loses in upper part. Or start higher at planšarija along road right to end and up through forest. Reach saddle behind Veliki vrh. Third most visited, from Logarski kot, path to hunters hut, then pathless to Savinjek or Okno.

Loerst - approximately where you drew - but I can't claim for sure, no GPS track either. For (visual) help, pics 3, 5, 7 and 9 (26. 7. 2021), where the forest rib rising to the ridge is well visible - on the left side of the gully (pics 7 and 9). It is therefore important to find that gully - and at the right spot turn into the steep slope to the left of it (or into its right bank).

This is a textbook example of why this forum is great. Where else could you get three useful answers to a question about a very rarely visited peak that isn't even on most maps, nor have most hikers heard of it? Thanks to all three and safe steps!

If you need something more detailed from this ridge and accesses to it, you can contact me on ZS. Regards
