Koreno above Horjul 729m

Since there were no conditions to go higher today, I set off with my dog on a three-hour ramble hoping to get home before the thunderstorms.
From Ljubljana (Pržanj), I head over Preval under Toški Čel and stick to the road towards Polhove Gradec. A few km before it in Srednja vas I turn left into the remote valley of the Prošca river. At the top of the pass 423m we turn right (sign Rožnik) and continuously ascend on a good forest road to the top of Korena. At the top it was quite windy and not warm for the season. Black clouds were already gathering, so I quickly rushed back to the valley. From Ljubljana it's 21km and about 2 hours ascent, back 55min with tailwind. On the way a light snow shower caught me at Polhove Gradec. The tour is wonderful, very varied, leading through a quiet area and I recommend it to all locals. Time-wise it's a bit longer than the ascent to Jakoba at Medvode. For better orientation I'm attaching some photos.nasmeh

Nice nice. But you don't turn left to Sr. vasi, but right after the end of Dvora, namely turn to Dolenja vas (locally 'over prožca') mežikanje

After almost ten years I visited this beautiful place again. Many visitors as everywhere. But something else bothered me. Electric shepherds are stretched everywhere on pastures. You can get to the cross and that was enough for me and most. But obviously not for some, so they step on the wires to get to the other side. With that they also damage those farmers. Sometimes we are not aware enough that we walk on someone else's property. We wouldn't like it either if someone on our yard did something that we then have to fix after them. Only footprints should remain behind us.

A wet and cold blanket clings to our parts, but there's always something to stretch the legs for. Sometimes such a day is perfectly excellent for starting pre-New Year gatherings or trips to the "unknown". A clear and beautiful day would, despite good midday food, cause at least a guilty conscience and tickling in the soles in the inn, but this way it's perfectly nice to sit down with friends and chat. And on top of that, step onto a summit I've never been to, although it offers itself almost from my doorstep. Koreno is a really gentle little hill, enlivened by a herd of fallow deer and playful Scottish cattle, compensation for poor views and wet weather. Nice day with friends and good farm lunch at the open-door farm a stone's throw from the top.
The summit is visible from the starting point already.1

Sunday, 4.4.2021 (bike trip)

I used Easter Sunday for a nice bike ramble, during which the places I last visited in primary school years enthused me. As if I knew the road from Horjul up was closed, I did the ascent via Samotorica, around therefore. Nice, really nice, next time I'll head towards Šentjošt and from there to Vrhnika, next next time continue to Gorenja vas if inter-regional movement is allowed, and back through Loka. The one and only shortcoming I noticed at the top of Korena is that there's no bench by the church. One would like to sit and tie the soul as befits, but nowhere to sit. So I did it mountaineer-style, sitting a bit on grass and a bit on stone, mostly standing though, as it was cold and windy. Descent or downhill or return I did straight down to Horjul, as a friendly couple told me you can go by bike or foot on the otherwise closed road without issues. It really worked, but I was glad for my bike, wouldn't dare that rough macadam with a road bike. Cool and pleasant, really nasmeh

Some Tuesday photos from the trip sv. Urh - Zaklanec - Koreno - sv. Urh.
Part of the path from Zaklanec to Koreno is poorly marked and overgrown.

Best, Tadej
