I recommend from Grahovo. The path is somewhat "straight up". Follow the path past the last houses to the right above the village stream - past the "bunker". The path is traceable - some fallen trees in between. There the path gets a bit lost. I continued to the right (I think it would be correct to look for the path to the left behind the fallen trees), so I reached the ridge where you can see the village of Koritnica. No problem - there are also small paths and at about 1000 m you reach the path from Grahovo. Follow the ridge to the summit. I think you'll be happy not only with the nice view but also with the orchids. Then you can descend to Temljinska planina, then to Temljine. From there to the starting point along a nice path in less than an hour.

Today to Kotel from Grant. Thanks crow for the good description. Saw at least 7 markers on the path to the summit. Orchids are not in full bloom, saw 2 or 3. Next time we'll go as mane recommends. I think we met today in Grahovo in the bife.

The path from Grahovo is marked. But the markers are a bit older and you need to look carefully. In the section where there was ice, there are no markers and the path is harder to follow. Also some maneuvering around fallen trees is needed.
At the marker in photo 16, the path goes right under the trees. Best to continue straight up the ridge until reconnecting with the path coming from the right. Further on it's clearly visible until the remains of the collapsed hay shed. From the shed on, the path is visible only a few meters to the valley between the ridges. For a while you need to ascend up the valley. When you notice the possibility of joining the left ridge, cross to it, where you find markers again. Follow them to the summit.
From Grahovo to the summit about 850 meters elevation gain. The path is steep and constantly through forest. Farmers used it to bring in hay from meadows all over the slope of Kotel. The summit with its modest height is a good viewpoint.

Yesterday (28.2.2021) my wife and I went from Temlji, to the top roughly following the author's footsteps. Down along the marked path (supposedly new, red marks), which runs on the southern slope. I would recommend this last one, which is routed on the south side, also for going up. Key point is 50m from the trough, where we turn sharply right on the cart track and not left on the path, where the inscription on the rock directs and which is poorly marked further and leads to the west side of the hill. At altitude around 800m the cart track turns into a narrow trail that digs into the steepness. The slope inclination is very large in places, so careful steps. Towards the top the trail is poorly worn in places, but the red marks are a great help. The view from the top is really exceptional. Dense tufts of dry grass offer comfortable rest, if only the sun isn't too strong.

Jernej, thanks for this info. Back then the marks and even the path ran out after a while, but it was even more annoying on the way back.

Today (10.11.2025) my wife and I went from Temlji on the southern path to Kotel. Up to about 760 m the path goes in switchbacks on cart track and it's OK. Then at the left switchback, where the path goes straight, it is almost impassable. There are fallen trees on the path and it's quite overgrown. I did about 30 m, but it still wasn't any better. So I turned back. Does anyone know what the path is like further on?
