Kotnik's Walking Trail

Print
bos6. 03. 2020 10:40:05
Description from the website of the Municipality of Hoče - Slivnica: "Kotnik's walking trail is named after the local academic painter Rudolf Kotnik and leads us from Hoče through the Chapel of the Cross, St. Lenart and Pohorski dvor. Beautiful and easy-to-walk path in all seasons – and if you are average walkers, it takes almost three hours. Part of the path is on asphalt – that's also the start from the tennis court in Hoče to the forest. All stages are marked with clear signs, accompanied by the mark with number 2.
Although this is not a demanding hike, there are four ascents: the first to the Chapel of the Cross (Glivnik), which pleasantly warms us up. Along the stream we walk past former JLA dugouts, which today are just overgrown memories of past times. When we (through the gate) visit the little church of the Holy Cross (short detour from the path), we descend on asphalt into the valley towards Čreta, but quickly ascend to Vrhe nad Polano, where the border between Hoče and Slivnica parishes is. At the house of Mr. Ivan Pehant in Zg. Hoče 52b (right before descending to Reka) we can admire a very beautiful and preserved sgraffito by Prof. Rudolf Kotnik.
Behind the house we descend on a beautiful forest path past the branch school to Reka, where asphalt awaits us again and the third ascent to the chapel of St. Lenart (to visit the church, arrange with Mr. Dean Alojz Petrič (tel. 041/213 609)). Past the collapsing homestead by the church, which offers a unique image of old architecture, we descend on a cart track to asphalt. When we leave it, we reach a picturesque stream, then ascend across the homestead courtyard towards Pivola. This part of the ascent to the cross in Pivola is the steepest; then we descend on the road to the villa and Hompoš castle (Pohorski dvor), where now is the Faculty of Agriculture and Biosystems at the University of Maribor.
The last part of the path under Pohorski dvor leads past the old pond to Siničev mill, then along Hočki stream to Vreclova apple plantation – from there to the tennis courts. Kotnik's trail offers quite a few beautiful views of the valley and Pohorje. For shorter walks, it's pleasant to walk just one section of the path, but worth visiting all."

Best to park at the sports hall of OŠ Hoče and then go to the first/starting sign at the tennis house.

Kotnik's path is partially changed, as it ran across private land. From Sv. Lenart continue up the road to the left, so not right down over points 7 and 8. Thus on the road you reach point 9, at the cross.

Also changed also from picture 11 (point 2), where we continue straight (before left) and come out at picture 18, as there it also ran across private land.
So at picture 37 the path now continues left on road uphill. Follow road to junction, where turn right downhill and come on road to cross (picture 49).
Now fully marked also with new additional signs.

Yesterday I went-walked Kotnik's footpath. After three years again. Path changed on certain sections and runs on new route. It's nice and very poorly marked. So on certain new parts I walked by intuition, even a bit my own way, since markings, except info boards at points, practically none and you can easily get lost and no longer find the info boards at points.
