Kozice, Plajtarica, Parga

Yesterday we headed into the lesser-known, somewhat mysterious world along the Kolpa on the border with Croatia to the Kozice ridge. The start is from the village Predgrad -374m. This is the Forest footpath. There are two paths - longer and shorter. The longer is marked with oak leaves, which appear along the path on the trunks. The path runs through the forest throughout. The shorter is marked with hazelnut. We went the longer one. The paths also cross and join a little. The longer path is 14km long, takes 5-6 hours. Highest point is 850m. We also walk past abandoned vineyards, past sheer cliffs that drop towards the Kolpa river, climb to the rocky Plajtarica. In between we descend to a karst cave with stalactites. The path down to the cave entrance is not marked, the descent to the cave is demanding. The cave can be viewed - lanterns are obligatory. The cave was wet, slippery - need gloves. The initial part into the cave is especially wet and muddy. Then the path led us to Parga, where there is a chapel of Mary of the Snow with a box for entries. We descended to the village Laz on the Kolpa. Here we had the opportunity to see that fence against migrants.

My previous visit to these parts was in 2017. This time I went with PD Rašica. We started in the village Laze. The bus dropped us below the village by the river. The fence still stands here. Students joined us here, arriving with their own cars. After the village we went along marked paths - oak leaf, acorn - to the top of Kozice. At the junction below Kozice the easier group went down here. It was foggy, muddy - nothing friendly. Towards the top of Kozice it is a bit rocky. Sadly there was no view from the top of Kozice. Further on to the transmitter on Kozice. We also climbed to the rocky viewpoint on Pajtlerica - sadly no view. The hike somehow ends on Parga, where there is a cute chapel. Followed an easy descent back to the starting point. We celebrated the hike in the inn Bahor.
On the way we need to stop for coffee. You can only guess where we stopped.1
The pub furnishings look like a museum.2

Actually we walk more on muddy little paths.8
Actually the long and short path cross a little. This one is marked with an oak leaf.9
We had fog all day, in places so thick that you couldn't see ten meters ahead.10
A bit neglected benches.11
Path junction - here the easier group goes down. Most go on.12

The path is also marked by a bear paw - imaginatively.15
