Kranjska planina below Prisojnik

On the southern slopes of Prisojnik lies Kranjska planina, a pleasant choice when we crave sun, silence and dry mountain grasses. We can ascend to it from the 29th bend of the Vršič road, where we leave the car. Entry is right across the road, the path is nicely zigzagged uphill. From the planina it's then just a (less traceable) hop to the main alpine path linking Vršič with Pogačnikov dom. We can return the same way or do a loop over Vršič and back to the car along the road.

Yesterday (Nov 27) we wandered a bit above Trenta. To start we walked from Erjavčeva Hut to Tičarjev dom, where the decision fell to go to Kranjska planina. We left the pass towards Prisojnik, crossed scree and bypassed Vrh Kraj Sten. Short stop at Gladki rob, then it started. Down the path to Razor towards Mlinarica and looked for branch to Kranjska planina. Of course missed it, as we all stared right (and up where something to see), mark is on left. The branch itself is "such that it's not there". Walked and walked and realized we missed it, and map marked another unmarked one. Anyway big paradox, found the second, not the first. Naturally grabbed it and it was quite good, even some faded marks on rocks and some cairns. After getting lost few times and finding back as many, arrived at something that could be the planina, but didn't believe. Found water trough, nothing more. Went on along path that of course had no end at imaginary planina. Soon realized end is nowhere but in Trenta. Didn't want there, so back to water. Assumed further west. Didn't find passage, didn't search as day hours were counted. Bit on previous path, bit off-trail back to Razor-Vršič path, then to Gladki rob and pass. On way of course found the branch to planina and wondered how we missed it. But really only branch left, no smart path from anywhere. So postponed all to next time. At Vršič found start of second approach to Kranjska planina (starts near last bend of old road, viewed from Trenta), then back to Erjavčeva hut to see how Škrlatica justifies its name.
Path suitable for anyone with will for such wanderings, no winter gear needed. But true, snow forecast for Thursday and then... Well, then even nicer.

Yesterday my friend and I repeated the tour described above with the difference that we continued from the water trough towards Trenta. The markers (as many as there are) are somewhat faded, but the path is nicely traceable. At 1341 meters (29th serpentine) we reached the Vršič road and descended to Zapodeš along it. A few more pics...

Hello, hill climbers and mountaineers.
Need help...heading to Razor, want to start from Vršič road but not from Vršič pass, lower from Trenta side. Thinking of 29th serpentine (1341 m) or 32nd (1243 m) of Vršič road and path to Kranjska planina and onwards.
Interested which path to Kranjska planina is better, more visible, trodden and marked? And orientation on Kranjska planina? Can one reach the marked Gladki rob - Mlinarice gully path without issues?

Any info welcome.nasmeh

From the 29th bend there's a nice trail to Kranjska planina, then keep right and slightly up, red dots on trees help, higher up you soon reach the marked path.

As Igor said. Dots are more sporadic, cairns or similar (one or two stones on rock) help more. On marked path right is Razor, left Vršič and Prisank. Left after 20-30 m to junction.

For descent from that junction towards Razor and look right down along path for junction sign (two perpendicular lines in T shape). Then right and good luck finding dots and cairns. mežikanje

This path shortens Razor by about an hour. For Prisojnik so-so. Per map for Grebenska not much, Slovenska and Jubilejna maybe half hour. Anyway avoids Vršič parking fee. Space by road for max 3-4 cars.

On Thursday in gorgeous weather the bus driver over Vršič dropped me at 29th bend. Trail nicely traceable to trough at Kranjska planina. At trough keep immediately left uphill, a bit further faint marker on stone visible. Didn't miss red dots on tree. Further trail poorly traceable due to grass, but two white-red ribbons on branches and a few cairns on scree helped orientation and I was on Vršič-Razor trail. Found only 5 faint markers whole way. Spooked just one chamois on Kranjska planina, met hikers only at junction for Prisojnik. Continued tour to Vršič and to Soča Spring turnoff. On shady partly very wide forest trail full of water streams descended in one hour to gravel road before hut at Soča Spring. Finished tour on Soča trail to Triglav camp in Trenta, waited for bus.

Has anyone been through here in recent years? How's the traceability? Especially the upper part above the planina interests me.
Thanks in advancenasmeh.

On Triglav map (1:25 000, PZS) marked path shown: from above 32nd serpentine to junction with Jubilejna (south) route to Prisojnik…
At this spot (above 32nd serpentine) no starting marker or normal path traceable.
Also at other end - where path past Kranjska planina joins Jubilejna route, no visible "junction or fork: at most faint T marker.

Kranjska planina has been on my wishlist from the start, i.e. from the first post on this forum. It always seemed to me like an eternal problem how to find this path from above, but these days I reread all descriptions more carefully and realized that it is easiest to start at the 29th bend of Vršič road and once you find the solution and get approval for the tournasmeh, that's already half the solution. But the nicer part still awaited us. Such a nice tour on such a nice day as yesterday is a recipe for a perfect daynasmeh.

The nicely trodden path has overgrown this time with nice dry grasses, which to the planina offers about three markers, but actually you don't need them. It seemed to us that we were quickly at the trough, which has been renovated since the last descriptions, thus confirming the right planina. We climbed a bit higher to see the mountain views, then even higher on the still nicely traceable path, now with added cairns, onto the marked connector Vršič-Razor. Here we turned left to Vršič, but for something new on this path too, under Sovna glava we turned left and later continued on the old Vršič road (nicely drawn on some maps) to the road and via another trodden path above the road to Šupce, where we left the car.
On the whole path we met only one young Greek descending from Prisojnik. And that was all.
