Križ, Rinke, Turska gora and Kamniško sedlo

On Saturday we started at 6:00 from the parking lot below Rinka waterfall, past Okrešelj towards Savinjsko sedlo, where the path branches right a little below the summit to Križ into the wall which gets quite steep and is secured with cables - IT'S SUPER. The path leads over the "ridge", where the other side of KSA opens up and you see Ledine, Češka koča... the rest higher up stayed hidden under thick fog. Here the path isn't demanding, but not for long, as we were soon back in the wall, this time exposure is even greater, but we don't feel it as thick fog surrounds us. It's well secured, except at two spots the cables are torn out with the bolts, so caution is needed. From the top of Koroška Rinke then a hop to Kranjska Rinka and past Turski žleb to Turska gora and descent via Kotliče. Up to here the weather was super despite occasional fogs, at times really hot. Just when we wanted to cut across the path to Kamniško sedlo via scree shortcut, it suddenly poured on us literally and since the path proved not the best in these conditions, we went the regular way to Kamniško sedlo and the weather calmed too, though it was blowing full at the saddle. Then back past Okrešelj and down to the valley for a well-deserved lunch. The tour lasted about 9 hours, but it's super, especially the first more climbing part. smile

Križ (Koroška Rinka)!
Early in the morning - 5:25 (2.8.08) with son to parking below the waterfall. In a hurry forgot fresh - warm rolls in car (we were afraid of bad weather). But no help - back to car and rolls in backpack (next time I'll put them in Mozirje).
Rushing to Mrzli dol (very hot) - on the way pressing head into bushes and cooling with raindrops from previous day's thunderstorm.
At 7:00 already at junction to Križ. A bit brutal ascent on scree and barely waiting for rock. Path quickly steepens and already enjoying easy climbing and warm rock (higher peaks in fog - a bit worrying). Path is fantastic, marked, secured so progressing without issues. Only a bit worried by view to peaks (fog and sun alternating). Soon crossing to other side - up in fog hearing conversation.
Soon meet two hikers returning - in short talk learn they turned back just before summit - FOG!!
Quickly advancing on also demanding path.
Path still quite demanding and rushing on narrow ledges and persistently climbing to summit.
In upper part really some pulled out pegs, but no issue for us. More - path covered with debris and higher slip risk. Just before 9 at summit - windy and cold!
Some photos (as much as possible) and towards Štajerska Rinka.
Weather changing - fog/sun. Soon notice ravens tearing unknown animal on rock and carrying carrion probably to nests.
Meet also family of chamois with kid (not approaching - photo from distance) and descend to gully. Gully as gully - snow still there!
For me, a bit on some part stretched (loose) cable causes some sweat drops on nose. I cheat and just stick finger in empty peg hole and haul over.
Quickly to Okrešelj for beer 11:45 (thundering already). Cold beer drink quickly (doesn't help) - in thunderstorm take shelter under rescuers' roof (already quite crowded). After 15min thunderstorm, already descending to waterfall. Sun already acting and I'm wet from sweat not rain.
Already meeting afternoon visitors heading for short trips..

Yesterday we went Okrešelj - Mrzli dol - Križ (Koroška Rinka) - Turski žleb - Okrešelj
Protections on Križ impeccable. Slightly missed the ascent to wall (on scree). Start of descent (scree) to T. žleb - unpleasant!! In gully fog, visibility 10m and very cold. Otherwise on Savinja side hot and sunny out of Kranjska fog and very cold wind.
parking below waterfall: 6:45
ascent to wall: 9:00
Križ summit 11:00

How is it with snow on the path from Okrešelj to Koroška Rinka? Is winter gear needed on any section?

You cross it first a bit further from Okrešelj, under the wall of one Rinka, where it's usually always. Second time in Mrzlem dol, there under Savinjsko sedlo. We didn't need winter gear, because the terrain is fairly flat, and the snow isn't frozen due to the sun.

Today went from Mrzla gora to all three Rinke (Križ), descended towards Turska gora and continued to Brana, and finally descent from Kamniško sedlo to Logarska dolina, pictures for Mrzla gora already attached in the thread.
