Krn Lake and the hut at Krn Lakes we can also visit from Bohinj. By car we drive to the hut at Savica. Plenty of parking, parking fee 3 euros, collected by hand. After the hut signs direct us to Dom na Komni. We reach the entrance to Savica Waterfall. We turn left towards Dom na Komni. The path is pleasantly laid out with countless serpentines to the hut. To the hut it takes about two hours. The path is easy, all the way in the shade. At the hut there is even a small Marian shrine where we can commend ourselves to her. After the hut we continue towards a pleasant little valley where the hut under Bogatin is. To there only fifteen minutes. Here we can refresh ourselves for the last time, because an open path awaits us for a good two hours. In sunny summer weather it can be very hot. In a good hour we are at the top of Vratc or Bogatinsko sedlo. Here we have a signpost for Krn Lake. From here we can also go on two easier mountain hikes - Mali Bogatin - half hour or Lanževica - one hour. At the top there are ruins of military buildings from the First World War. Actually the whole path reminds us of the senseless slaughter of the First World War. We walk nicely on the marked path, because right next to the path there are plenty of steel spikes hidden in the grass and remnants of nets. On the right side we even spot an underground bunker. We reach a valley where there are ruins of a huge barracks. Only roofs and windows are missing - mighty and solid construction that withstands time for almost a hundred years. The next junction is before Peski, where you can go to Krn, we continue right towards Krn Lake. Soon we are in the Krn Lakes valley, at the saddle we turn right to the hut at Krn Lakes or left to see the big Krn Lake. There was a huge crowd at the lake, as if it were Bled or Bohinj. Big crowd at the hut too. You have to know that from Lepena here it's only two hours and most hikers came from there. But I have to say that many hikers also choose the longer variant that I describe here. I met quite a lot of hikers. For example, beds in the hut under Bogatin at nine in the morning were no longer available. I did the tour on Saturday 15.08.2009. Whoever loves long undemanding tours this is just right. So the whole tour takes about five hours each way. Happy hiking!

Even more picturesque if you head from Bogatinsko sedlo to Lanževica and from there pathless to Velika Baba and descend on marked path to the hut. The route lengthens by about 2 hours depending on stops.

Again mixing WWI with interwar period:: - at the Vratce there are no ruins of military buildings from WWI, but Italian border objects from Rapallo border time - spikes, nets and bunkers also not from WWI, but Italian fortifications to protect Vratce. - the huge barracks doesn't defy time almost 100 years, but only about 70.

Nybello, I really wrote wrong about the ruins. Thanks for the corrections. I studied the exact historical facts when I read the report by Bojan A., who did the same tour and made a wonderful contribution about it. In the future I will also study history accurately if I mention it. I will repeat this tour next year if everything is ok, just that I will turn towards Krn.
