Another afternoon-night hike.
A colleague who lives in Kal nad Kanalom invited us and suggested we go to Lašček.
Lašček is considered the highest peak of the Banjska Plateau with its 1071 m. It offers nice views of the Julian Alps with Triglav, Friuli and the Julian Karst, Šentviška and Trnovska plateaus, to the south even the Gulf of Trieste.
After work at 17.00 we drove a bit further from Kal nad Kanalom to the starting point, took some pics while there was still daylight, then headed right on the forest path. The path is nice, marked, snowy all the way to the top.
Well, when we reached the summit it was already dark but we enjoyed it anyway jezik

We decided to repeat it and next time also look around from the top, cheers, best nasmeh

Today the snow drew me to the Banjska Plateau. Initially I planned snowshoeing on Banjščice. But the weather was miserable despite promising forecasts, so I decided to go to Lašček from Srednji Lokovec.
Road to Lokovec snow-free, further plowed to nearby hamlets.
At the start pleasant -5, snow already more than half a meter at the beginning, further more than a meter. Snow soft, but with snowshoes mostly didn't sink much (mostly to ankles), towards summit sank through to the end.
I did the path as a loop, started on the upper-right path through the forest past the hamlet Novo Mesto. Snow untouched except tracks of forest dwellers, which helped with orientation where marks were under snow. Below the summit due to lots of snow and drifts I went a bit my own way. At the summit surprise - all trampled. The logbook shows three hikers before me, tracks also snowshoes. No views, so quickly continued towards the goal. Predecessors' trampled path over northern ridge to Gornji Lokovec junction, I turn to Srednji Lokovec. Again untouched whiteness and another two hours trudging wet snow. Very nice and solitary path. Today's pics not great, but impressions unforgettable.

Today on Lašček gorgeous. Snow 20-50 cm, soft on top, compact below. Crust doesn't sink when walking, except right below summit with lots of drifts. Path from Srednji Lokovec not trodden, on summit tracks from Zgornji Lokovec again. As I leave summit, hikers come on path from Cvetrž. I break trail on northwest side path, this time only to Novo Mesto.

From here onwards, snow gradually increases all the way to the top.

This time under the branches without major difficulties.

The path uphill is nicely followable, only just below the summit still many snowdrifts.

Yesterday on the way to Lašček I spent quite some time on Banjšice and almost emptied the camera battery. So some photos from the phone too.
Banjšice always amaze me with their beauty and wide views offered in good weather. Lašček is the king of solitary hikes. Hard to imagine such remote places so close to the city.

By the Grgar-Grgarske Ravne road stands a monument to the JLA soldiers who died tragically while helping to build the road

On December 6, 1972, due to an explosives explosion, 13 young lives were lost while sleeping.

In these areas water is still a problem today. Surrounding hamlets still lack running water. Yet the town is only 30 min away.

Today to Lašček from Cvetrež. Fog didn't let us have views so we turned back. No trace of winter.

On Sunday on Lašček a real winter fairy tale. Wild beauties and solitude were not lacking either.

one had to duck low through a small tunnel of snow-covered branches reaching to the ground

as forecasted, it slowly cleared up in the afternoon

before the last farmstead, a bit along the road

under the house I reached the already trodden track

crawling under snow-laden branches seemed endless

the setting sun gilded the snow-covered branches

Further on I came across a cross-country skier's track; he had really struggled to force his way through the soft snow.

Before I fought my way out of the forest, the sun had already set.

Path was interesting too. Especially downhill, only skier's track helped me not get lost under branches reaching the ground that on one section completely hid the path (which I otherwise know very well).

First snow lured me yesterday, 22.11.2015, to Banjšice. Since the snow cover was too thin for snowshoes, I drove to Sr. Lokovec and despite the late hour headed to Lašček. Right at the start I put on snowshoes and climbed through the forest. Continued without snowshoes on the gravel road to Novo Mesto, then again snow pleasures on untouched white. Near the last farm deep sinking, on the slope in the forest just below the summit hardly any snow. On the spotless summit soon joined by a couple who had tramped from Cvetrež, behind me another hiker happy I had broken the trail for him. Half an hour to sunset, I would have happily waited for it on the summit if the path through the solitary forest hadn't been waiting for me. No time or strength for a loop, so the northwest slopes remained untouched.

In the summit register box a lost booklet Dnevnik s slovenske planinske poti is waiting for its owner without personal data of the owner.

For this New Year's Eve hike we chose Lašček this year, something we hadn't been to before. Banjšice, a world we know by name, but I barely knew where to place it. We drove from Most na Soči and already during the drive enjoyed the views opening towards Krn and its neighbors. For the starting point we chose the intersection before the village Cvetrež, where we quickly realized that here it's really continental climate, as I had to put on double gloves. There was quite a lot of snow for this altitude, since Lašček at 1071 m is relatively low.

The summit, as predecessors wrote, excellent viewpoint, yesterday especially so. The Julian Alps were like on the palm, Dolomites not too far either. But no big crowds here, it surprised me, a few visitors nevertheless. We paused for a moment, listened to nature, only peace and quiet we noticed, and knew we were far from the city world nasmeh

Ločanka, sl 20 is Lake ČHE Avče in village Kanalski vrh, Avče are a couple of 100m lower right by Soča. In the back you see mountains above Piancavallo.
