Laško - Malič - Šmohor - Gozdnik

Due to the weather forecast promising thaw, the decision on Saturday was for somewhere lower.
Start from Laško a bit after 9.
Then along the marked path towards Šmohor.
Malič full of blooming hepatica. Šmohor, I'd say nothing special, pulls us further, yeah, another little peak ahead, Gozdnik, with nice views of Zasavje hills and Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Gozdnik - really apt name, spring awakening on top. Long path, good for stretching, with some remarks to PD Laško.
First time in the area, so more attentive to markings.

Markings rather poor, renewed in places, but...
- on path to Šmohor no sign for Malič, just some arrow, where does it go?
- time signs a chapter on their own, before hut on Šmohor says 1 hour 45 minutes to Gozdnik, at top - 2 hours to Šmohor, though we know descents usually faster than ascents,
- bit below church signs for Kal and Mrzlica, both 1 hour 30, but Mrzlica half hour further from Kal,
- Gozdnik not mentioned once from Šmohor to junction, so in doubt for a while if on right path.
PD Laško should take time to fix these things, no issue for locals, but first-timers want better orientation.

Today I went to check if pollution from burning wood is present there too at 800, 900 m. Yes it is, if not, foresters light fresh spruce branches and it's like in the valley.

When villages compete for May 1st which has bigger bonfire, which cut more greenery around for biggest adv. wreath and similar nonsense, I wonder, wonder.....

Otherwise nice hike from Liboje to Malič and Šmohor, then over Gozdnik to start.

Today for our youngest ascent from the Hut on Šmohor to Malič.
First to promised playgrounds, then up the path and down the road and at end to deserved sugary foam nasmeh

Hut on Šmohor has new caretaker. Go greet him.
Car left at parking behind Kotečnik climbing area. First part of path my way, then marked path from Tremarije.
Path well marked, unfortunately also with dog messes that don't stop.
Hut open, too early for rating as only 10 days there.
For descent unmarked but lately well trodden parallel, joins marked at Liboje.
Nice loop about 10 km in around 2 hours.

Markings, apparently visible even at night. I don't like it, but they just don't stop!

On the meadow I stumbled upon the remains of a fierce battle. Poor roe deer fawn.

New caretakers in the hut. We'll see....

Wild boars have plowed the whole meadow. Bad.

Yesterday in the heat I wandered on unmarked paths around and on Malič and randomly found an interesting path. I'm sharing it if it's useful to someone. It connects both Liboje marked paths in the central Malič forests at about 650 m, taking about 20 minutes. It is marked with a characteristic L at the entry a bit above Gajnar. It starts on a forest ride; I laughed thinking it was a hunter's... But the ride ends (well marked on the map) and later it is so cunningly laid out that you must skillfully follow it over forest slopes and know hunting habits by natural landmarks, as there are no more marks later. It appears where needed (e.g., on the slope) and deliberately disappears on easier terrain. Entry and exit are typically missing for 20-50 m. If someone wanders there and likes hidden paths, I recommend it.

Some pics from the trip. Advise against descent to farm at far eastern end of Malič ridge, as random encounter ended with dog attacks and outright unfriendly words from locals.
I know not cycling forum, but anyway in captions deliberate mini homage to guys currently brightening our couch days and ready to turn into cycling mutants from our cheering. Guys, even if someone (profiting off you now) calls you crooks and cheats in coming years, hat off to your efforts and persistence!

Short 3-hour walk from Rečica near Laško. Up over Tolsto, back over Malič. Nice day and sun in gullies, shade cold as a nail. Nice loop for new year intro.

Under Vranšca some markings are still visible

Enjoyable, although someone marked it with pink spray in case of thick fog :)

Weather forecast for today's Sunday was not the best. Plan for Šmohor and Malič hike of course not same as Triglav or Seven Lakes. But seemed suitable tour by train to Laško and ascent to Malič and Šmohor, this part of Slovenia nice too. As many as 28 gathered, great, some first time here. Path well marked, to Malič junction moderate ascent, then steeper bit. Last ridge part deceives, like already at top, but remember well years ago three ups and downs repeat, then really on Malič top. Another 20 min descent to Šmohor, clouded a bit but sat outside. Hut surroundings nicely arranged, mushroom soup and strudel very good. Another 1.5h descent, coffee at end. Train calmly brought us to Ljubljana. Nice to spend the day in good company of pleasant people, thanks all for company, help and trust...

Yesterday morning parked a bit below the saddle between Kotečnik and Gozdnik. Turned left to Kotečnik, at 650m blue sky showed up. On rocks just below the summit it was almost hot. Descended past the quarry to Liboje and right away up again to Kamčič, then along the ridge through reeds and blueberries to the marked path to Šmohor. On Šmohor sunny and warm, and quite a few cars and walkers. From Šmohor still to windy Gozdnik and back to the car in thick fog.
Despite lots of leaves, descents not as slippery as expected, still poles are mandatory gear.
In five hours almost 16km and over 1200m elevation

Short afternoon hike. Sporty to the limit of lung capacity to Šmohor and Malič. At top freezing rain and rain. Change clothes and enjoyment towards Kamčič. At viewpoint sat for a long time. A bit of three-point balance practice and lower past nicely arranged sport climbing wall to valley. First time in nature really up close admired larger owl.

DU Britof-Predoslje we have at least once a year trip or tour by train. But we have one tour per month. This time went by train to Posavje. Start of course from Kranj, transfer in Ljubljana. Got off in Laško. Then through town to start for Šmohor. Takes over two hours walking. Path medium. In between rocky, full of roots. Has steep sections. Some asphalt too. Path dry, weather in between. Windy areas, then very hot again. Hut open all week except Monday. Ordered warm snack. Fire brigade succeeded too. Had good time. On return changed three trains. Had good time.

Path Zgornja Rečica - Dom na Šmohorju runs quite differently than drawn on online maps.

Well signposted and marked path leaves main road at signpost, road at farm Brezovar, reaches drawn path on maps a bit above Štitnikar.
Somewhere mid-path about five minutes long section quite overgrown with tall grass, young trees, partly blackberries too.
