Logs-Hut-Tea

Often along paths to mountain huts we see stacked firewood (usually half-meter logs) and a sign inviting hikers to tie one to their backpack and carry it two or three hours uphill to the hut. Sometimes a friendly hut keeper offers a cup of tea in thanks. This gives satisfaction that good is rewarded with good and motivates to repeat it next time. It's not about the 1.5 euros that tea costs, or two deciliters of sweetened water and a tea bag. It's about fair-play attitude.

Topic for hut keepers who DO NOT treat firewood bringers to a cup of tea and hikers who indifferently (some justifiably: elderly, women, children) pass by the firewood.

Not long ago we went to Snežnik. At the last parking lot there are also logs and a friendly invitation where to carry them. Many people or rather Sunday hikers, mostly Italians, really take the log in hand or under arm, but drop it soon along the path in bushes or among rocks, because they are too heavy too often, so almost half pile of wood ends up somewhere else just not in the stove. I have brought logs in front of the hut several times, but no tea in sight, though true I didn't expect it, and hut keepers never offered it either. Often I have tea with me or order it in the hut.

When we were last time (July) on Snežnik, there was no trace of the sign and logs at the last parking lot. But my sherpa put it around my neck and carried a good part of the path.jezik

I also saw the sign, carried wood and stayed with a dry throat. Never mind, I'll carry them next time too. Sign visible on picture, think it's the fourth on Hribi net. Snežnik,....

To those for whom one log is hard to carry without getting tea, suggest stay home!

Last year in High Tatras I carried three large logs cca 2.5 h to hut under 3000 m; would get soup but hut closed; so what, did good deed.

Today visited Snežnik, wood as much as want, also friendly invite to tea, only too many pasta munchers, so loud I'd rather carry them than listen.
