Lokve - Veliki Bukovec 1445m

On the top of the former Lokve ski resort the "snow highway" starts, laid out by an enthusiast from the Coast. He wants to show the locals who have slept a bit what tourists and movement-hungry people from this and that side of the border need and desire. He trampled the former ski slope which has persistently decayed for decades, pulled several km of cross-country trails, opened a mini ski and snowboarding school. And with snowmobiles he pulls skiing enthusiasts to the top of the former ski resort. Today there were plenty of future skiers and cross-country followers at Lokve. For me today was also a cross-country - hiking day which replaced high-mountain movement this weekend. I turned to the hiking and cross-country trail under the north side of Ojstrica (1356m), which leads through the heart of Trnovo Forest to Turk's Pass. There is a split of several paths. I chose the path towards Smrekova draga and Mali Golak. The cross-country track and footpath are nicely laid through really idyllic and pristine nature. There's huge amounts of snow. If there were no tracks, you'd sink over the knees for sure. Somewhat after the split for Veliki Bukovec I decided to climb this - unknown to me - little peak. Of course I pushed through trees to the top and where I anticipated no major drifts. The summit isn't really a viewpoint as it's quite overgrown. I returned the same path, just that from Turk's Pass I turned left towards Mrzovec and joined the path that leads to Lokve from the east side. Given the low crowds of this area I recommend the tour to all peace and quiet seeking cross-country skiers or hikers.

Hey! I'm interested where you went to Bukovec... I've been several times with cross-country skis from below and thought up, but either didn't feel like it or there was too much snow...When the path levels out (second-last and last picture) there's a left turn...did you go up there or somewhere else? Otherwise I was yesterday at Črni Vrh yeah from Mrzovec with cross-country.. insanely steep

Hi! You guessed right ... I went blindly.. along the "indicated" path - from the relief I concluded that the path to Bukovec should be there. There's probably even more snow now. About Črni vrh south of Mrzovec I hear for the first time. Will have to go explore . Good luck finding Bukovec.

Hello! Not from Lokev but from Vojsko direction. At Anina koča right up the hill. The gate is open, but there's a warning sign that makes me a bit "uneasy in the stomach". Still I decide to proceed on snow. Although previous days when hiking more eastward I followed bear tracks in the snow it didn't deter me from the goal. I continue on the path that goes westwards gently ascending. At a small clearing it ends. I assess a bit and decide for the unmarked trail right among rocks. The trail is well traceable. But it circles the sinkhole below me. I decide to go straight up the hill westwards. I reach the ridge which I follow and it brings me to the summit. Here is a border stone and still the Italian name of the peak. M.Bucovizza 1448. As described it's not particularly panoramic. Abundantly covered with storm vegetation. If winter is rich with snow it's a nice touring ski goal. Best regards and happy trails!
