Lučka Bela

Hello.
Surely someone knows the condition of the forest road into the Lučka Bela valley (Lonci gorge). Is it still pretty much closed or impassable due to the August storm?

I was 14 days ago with a scooter and drove through it. The road is passable, just some section is a bit worse. Well, if I managed with the motorbike, you will also with the car - it will be dusty, that's all.

14.7.2025 Lučka Bela, Stare stale
Last time I drove through the valley, today I walked it. There is about 5km of macadam road (one way). Altogether I walked 17km. When the hiking trail maintained by PD Celje branches off from the macadam road, there are problems soon. Windthrow did its thing and everything lies crosswise. Last time my colleague told me it was impassable and he turned back. No problem, if you branch left from the marked trail (I built a cairn), you are through in a few minutes. No issues. Take into account some crossings above a steep gully and you cannot afford mistakes.velik nasmeh
Then you are on a nicely followable marked trail. Markings are somewhat faded in places, some nicely visible. But no matter, the trail is nicely followable and does not even need them. There is now enough water along the trail and I did not drink more than a liter from my rucksack. The whole trail was in tree shade in the morning. Only the last half hour above the tree line had I sun. I approached the old stalls very quietly and watched marmots scurrying here and there. Finally I stopped 10m (then already 5m) from the holes and watched five young ones playing. They got used to me and one came to me. I treat myself to a rest in the shade and enjoy playful marmots flying here and there. The return was the same way, because I have not studied descent options from the hunters' hut Brežiči yet. But the return path dragged back along the macadam road to the valley start.
Scouts had lunch and were happy because they got back the flag stolen at night. But for punishment they had to stand in the cold stream bed of Lučka Bela creekcool
Solitary, uninhabited glacial valley. On my path I did not find any paper scrap, bottle, beer can - nothingcool
Despite storms of recent years that ravaged the valley, the trail has preserved very well. Nicely followable and without protections. Maybe in the last part someone needs a meter of wire rope, but it goes without too. For 17km I used 7 hours while quite a bit exploring in between. I liked it!!cool

A few years ago we had the luck to stumble upon a drying lake and also on marmots.

Nice, Zlatko, that's it! nasmeh
If health allows, definitely in autumn several times there. There are still quite a few corners into which I want to peek.
Good luck!

The mark on picture 3, which shouldn't be hidden, most likely means: Here runs the property boundary between F.F. (Funtek Tranc, Spodnji Podpečnik) and F.P. (Funtek Peter, Zgornji Podpečnik). After 1991, when the nationalized forests were returned, they were mostly returned to heirs, since the original owners were no longer alive. Now F.F. and F.P. are also deceased and their successors manage the farms.

On picture 8 is the bee breeding station that the Beekeepers' Association Luče has in the Bela valley.

One idea how to return to the starting point from the hunters' hut Brežiči. We go back along the road approximately 1 km, past the Podvežak parking lot, past the place where the lower Podvežak road joins from the right. The road becomes steeper and after 200 m we reach the first gully, which descends from the Podvežak pasture area. It is followed by a bend called Kurji ovinek, because that section has the richest habitat of the western capercaillie on Podvežak. A little further we reach the second gully, which comes from the Vodole pasture. From the Inkret spring, over the Vodole pasture, down this gully toward Planica and then to the edge of Bela runs a long dry valley, in whose area the waters of the Dovnik springs collect. We head down the first or second gully, which join after 100 m. The trail or pathless route is not demanding but awkward due to rocks from road construction and tall herbs. This can be avoided if we go from the second gully another 100 m to the ridge (Borov hriber) and descend this ridge to the right into the gully. It gradually becomes wider and gentler (Tesnice) and reaches the forest macadam road Planica-edge Bela. Now we are on the Planica plateau and the dry valley is less pronounced because it is covered with glacial moraines. Still, we can follow it as it is slightly depressed compared to the surrounding terrain. We reach the asphalted road toward Planica at the place where the track branches off to the right. We follow the initially indistinct ditch downward between the road and the track. The ditch soon turns into distinct troughs with 3-4 m high walls and 2-3 m width. After about 50 m the valley widens again, turns left toward SE and becomes similar to a canyon with 50 m walls (Globošek). Here the terrain is relatively flat and leads us to the edge of Bela. The terrain downward is steep but undemanding. We stick to the path left downward, where we see dense forest. We reach the valley a little above the Dovnik springs. Due to the moister environment, in summer tall herbs are the main problem at individual places. LP.

Thanks "Sargon" for the exhaustive explanationcool
About the inscription on the rock, I might have expressed myself wrongly by saying it's in a "hidden place". It's covered by bushes and few people will notice it when passing by. But the only logical explanation is the one you wrote. Higher up on the rock by the road, I also noticed some letters? Written with black paint, they are already very faded and I don't have a photo.
The beehive, which is lower by the hunting observatory, and that breeding station are very protected (fenced), probably because of the bear?

I walked the valley on foot to get to know it a bit better. Throughout, the question of a circular path bothered me, so as not to return the same way. You only get a phone signal around the junction "KOROŠICA 3.5 hours". So it didn't load the map of my location and I also missed the Žegnani spring. The road is deeply carved into the valley and due to the overgrowth you don't have the best view. In case you drive to the junction for Korošica, I was eyeing the steep meadows above the trail, where there was windthrow. That part is now really partly impassable. Maybe I'll think in that direction when they remove the fallen trees. That way you avoid walking the entire valley. Otherwise, the walk through the valley is nice and very interesting. There's something to see and explore. But then the return along the road, if you've done the tour to Korošica, Lastovec, is quite tiring.
In that direction as you described it to me, I was also thinking when I checked the topographic map. Not as detailed as you described, because I don't know that end well enough. But I didn't expect the passage above Dovnik's spring, interesting!
Thanks again! and best regards, Zlatko

Maybe regarding the descent option from the Brežiči hunting hut to the starting point (Lučka Bela, Korošica junction). Just this year my colleague and I descended directly down. It's quite steep though. You need to keep somewhat left all the time and you hit a passage lower to the road, namely to the sharp left bend above the apiary. Then another kilometer or so on the road (right direction) to the starting point. But I'll definitely need to return to these areas. regards

I also figured that was possible. I know it's very steep because I've been to that hut several times. But that was years ago and I wasn't thinking about that feat. Next year I'll continue with explorations in these remote corners. I hope there'll be some snow this winter and a few days well below 0 C. Then I'd go for a walk through the valley with camera in hand.

I went along this path last weekend to Vodotočnik and it's passable. As Sargon wrote, at the windthrow spot it's easier if you leave the path and go left along the edge of the gully.
