Magozd - Veliki vrh - Krasji vrh (Polovnik ridge)

Due to logistics, a slightly different and interesting ascent to the Polovnik ridge from the beautiful village of Magozd above Kobarid. For all those who want to traverse at least the right and more interesting part of the ridge. Climbed up to Veliki vrh and descended over Krasji vrh to the starting point of a very nice circular tour.

4.05.2020. One of the most beautiful traverses, at least for me. When you go for the first time and everything is new. I thought there'd be some snake on the path, but yesterday they kept warm. You can drive to the village of Magozd with a car. To the end of the village under the green linden. Then along the old mulatjera. Nicely laid out and scenic. All the way to the branch for Pirhovec. Then we went as Marjan had the path drawn on his phone. Steeply to Veliki vrh. Nothing at the summit. Yesterday it wasn't even warm. Wind blowing on the ridge where we went to Krasji vrh. No snow except at one spot. No winter gear needed. We knew the ridge was long. And some scrambling, searching for passages. From one summit to the next. When you think that the last Krasji vrh is ahead, you see that there are at least two more summits to cross. Except for two hikers who went to Pirhovec, we met no one the whole way.

Pirhovec is visible, but we go straight up the steep slope.

tall grasses and probably some snake when it gets warmer.

Here there are quite a few descents and ascents.

Everything is the first time once. The second time the path will be more familiar; it is really solitary but very beautiful.

When you're waiting, time seems not to move at all. We plan to traverse it again, with an ascent to Pirhovec. When it's warmer. nasmeh

Darinka, how long time-wise from Krasji vrh to Veliki vrh?

At Veliki Vrh we were at 11:35. At Krasji vrh at 14:46. Let me tell you, we didn't walk fast. Because it was our first time here and the ridge is somewhat demanding in places. But interesting. It is bare. So no need to carry winter gear with you.

Yesterday I walked the ridge Krasji vrh - Veliki vrh both directions. For there and back I used three hours, one way one and a half hours. For comparison let me say that from the basin above Drežniške Ravne to Krasji vrh I needed three hours. It seems to me that in direction of Veliki vrh the path is better visible in many places than opposite direction. Many detours so no need over every hillock.

14.10.2021. Autumn-colored tour. In Magozd we started walking in the morning. To planina Dolec. And continued this time on mulatjera or what remains of it since then. Last May we went straight up the slope. Day was cold. Chamois we surprised below summit of Veliki vrh. Continuation on ridge path all to Krasji vrh. We found path that goes in gully somewhere before Krasji vrh and shortens path to valley. But since we didn't know if followable although drawn in Garmin we didn't choose it. Rather went to Krasji vrh and descended to basin in Drežniške Ravne. Little further footpath to village Magozd where we started walk. It was just under 18km and 1460 elevation gain.
