Today on a beautiful spring day to Little and Big Poljana. Unfortunately it wasn't much of a spring tour. Around 900 meters above sea level the snow starts and with every 100 meters more elevation there's more of it. Start was in Povlje. Soon we reach a junction where the left path directs to Little Poljana. We find ourselves in a cold gully up which we ascend quite steeply for one hour. From both sides of the gully small avalanches have come down, so the path is safe regarding avalanches. There's practically no crust, only someone walked the path and sank knee-deep. No other variant than to follow the footprints. Of course it goes very slowly. When you get out of the forest you can walk across the whole snow to the hut on Little Poljana. No sinking at all. Someone even went from there to Tolsti vrh. But I at the hut turned also to Big Poljana. From the hut it was again only deep postholing in snow. The predecessor sank over the knee. Snow was soft from the hut on Little Poljana to the pasture on Big Poljana. But when you reach the pasture of Big Poljana the snow is hard again and you can walk on top. Hut on Big Poljana is open from Friday to Sunday - so three days. Friendly hutkeeper serves and chats. Then to the valley. For descent I'd recommend small crampons. Path is trodden, just slightly icy in places. When snow runs out we just take off crampons. It was a wonderful sunny day, no frost at all.

Some intermediate pictures from visit to Little and Big Poljana and Javornik pasture. I started and finished the path in Povlje.

Today again to Big and Little Poljana, only this time from Gozd via Ježa and Štajnarica, and also a jump to Grebenc-1479m. Grebenc is a wooded smaller peak between both Poljanas.

This is already the rocky Štajnarica, where there are a couple of cable sections across these rocks that safely take us over.

Yesterday to Little and Big Poljana from Dom pod Storžičem. Since I went in the afternoon, weather was already worse, but nothing serious. Enjoyed the peace and quiet.

First time at Big Poljana from village Povlje, which is between Preddvor and Golnik. Family, 700 elevation steep ascent. Left Tolsti vrh, right Storžič. Sunday morning some rain drops, after twelve cleared up. At Big Poljana nicely managed hut, hopefully opens soon. Part of family this time past Little Poljana to hour-away Tolsti vrh, other part left to Grebenc. Nice viewpoint to Polhograjci, Škofjeloško hribovje, main Tolsti vrh and Psica ridge to Storžič. Other side Stol, Begunjščica, Konjščica pasture, Ženiklovec, Lomska valley. Robi showed us war hideouts, auriculas, gentians...

Diligent hands of the caretakers Jerneja and Robi.

Many options for continuing the path, for those who can and want...

Yesterday via Little Poljana to tavelko. Wind was less than forecasted, sun too. Quite some people in these parts, among them youth group with escort - nice when young go to mountains nasmeh

Surprisingly when meeting and hanging out in fresh air no one wore mask, yet we're all healthy velik nasmeh

But GRS was just searching frozen hiker who day before set off to Storžič in low shoes and chains. Hundred people hundred wonders zavijanje z očmi

Second time at Big Poljana, from Povelj, below ice, then dry, really springlike, but higher more snow. Small crampons handy in upper part. Nice tour in good company thanks to Alenka's guiding and organization, thanks Robi for all, all super. Above hut quite windy, consider high altitude conditions. Such tours now really excellent. Views fantastic, crazy good to escape fog. Total 790 elevation, 8 km.

direction Golnik, Tenetiše, Trstenik... Povlje is the starting point

ice at the beginning, then dry, a little mud, then snowy

Does anyone know if you can get something to drink/eat in both huts (both Hunting hut on Little Poljana and Hut on Big Poljana), or only in Hut on Big Poljana? (Sometimes got something in hunting hut too, wonder if still so.)

Hut on V. Poljana open weekends if nice or at least decent weather. If forecast bad (rainy), can be closed too.
For hut on M. Poljana not sure if open yet. In summer season yes, now I think not yet.

Hunting hut on M. Poljana closed type (only for hunters mežikanje

), at least lately can't get anything there. Shepherd hut on same pasture likely opens with grazing season start.

After a looong time in these parts. We park under the hay sheds, then a bit on our own past the weekend houses to M. Poljana. Along the path everything accompanies us, from snowfall to sun, clouds ... I'd say there was a whole drama in the sky cool

We descend along the marked path, which is mostly covered by snow, under the snow numerous roots, so attention was at its peak. We reach Dom pod Storžičem without a fall, there we treat ourselves to a Storžič scoop as a reward, the fluffies crunch half a sausage velik nasmeh

Then satisfied we head home nasmeh
