I have bad (tough) experiences with Pihavci, today's one (above Luknja) is more of a leisurely walk. nasmeh

Anyway, I don't know who determined its position and height, everything is very vague and I'm still not completely sure which of the four (in the picture) the author had in mind. Of course I traversed all four.
Thursday morning, 22nd of the month, I pick up Uroš and we drive to Vrata. This year I'll save quite a bit, no parking fee velik nasmeh

To Luknja I sweated just enough to change my shirt, as Luknja was still in shade. We walk the path towards Bovški Gamsovec for a while, then veer left through sunny meadows. Armed with two altimeters I quickly pinpoint the elevation in the southern slope of Pihavec, which continues along the ridge to the top from here. Weather was wonderful, we snack on the big brother, after a really huge scree we descend its rubble and along the way visit Pihavec's northern forepeak Šplevta. Descent via Sovatna.

Mali Pihavec 2185m In such cases I like clouds the most. Križ, behind Rogljica, Dolkova špica and Škrlatica.

Little Pihavec (2,185 m) (July 2024)
Post a bit delayed, but maybe still useful to someone. Quite exploratory tour. Hard to define Mali Pihavec as a peak, as it's basically more of a grassy shoulder at the junction of SW ridge and W ridge to Pihavec (2,419 m), at least as seen from available maps, marked contours and gpx position on my track. Didn't approach via abandoned pasture Zajavor, but from Luknja ascended the "usual" path to Pihavec via Miheličev žleb, at whose top I traversed slopes below Pihavec left slightly upwards. More

After exiting Mihelič's gully I traversed left slightly uphill along the slopes below Pihavec

When I reached the ridge (around 2,300 m) I headed left downhill through a fairly steep grassy gully

At the end of the grassy gully (around 2,100 m) behind the rocky break / rib I headed right uphill back to the ridge

...towards that summit on the ridge, which I first thought was Mali Pihavec

According to GPX that wasn't the real summit, so I continued upwards (small detour on the west side as visible) and on this grassy shoulder was the GPX position for Mali Pihavec

I continued along the ridge towards Pihavec, where the only slightly more difficult detail was this small jump (II degree)

Above the mentioned rocky jump...view back...Mali Pihavec visible as the junction of two ridges

Continuation along the ridge towards Pihavec... here a small detour... then along the craggy slope beside the ridge towards the summit of Pihavca

You go to the gully only if you extra want it. Otherwise it's worth detaching from marked path and traverse one level lower already. That later ridge bypass to big brother's summit also unnecessary, difficulties don't exceed II. Mali Pihavec summit itself is ... well, that hump. mežikanje
