Medvedja jama-1500m

Today I decided to find the Bear Cave-also called Mokriška or Medvedova Cave. Sometimes they called it Zijavka, Knofengel or Knohelhel from the German word Knockenhohle. The mountain world around Krvavec ends with the Korošica valley, which joins Kamniška Bistrica. Bobočja above it are quite steep. High up they are covered with forest, its upper part covered with grass and scree. Through this steep world hunters have led several good paths. Under Debelim hrib they have their own small hut. Our cave is hidden near it.

How to get there? It's not exactly easy, but it's defined as an easy unmarked path. Start is on the left side of the lower cable car station to Velika Planina, where we descend slightly down on macadam over the bridge across Kamniška Bistrica. Through the narrow gorge we drive about one kilometer to the side road junction to the left over the little bridge and we're already on the nice mountain macadam road that takes us high into Korošica valley. After about five km this road slightly descends to Markova raven-wide bend-parking for a couple of cars. From here also leads a marked path to Krvavec. Road from Korošica valley also comes here, which is quite steep-otherwise in good condition. Leave the car here. Now follows the key part of the trip. About ten meters we descend down the road until we spot a rutted cart track on the left side. There we see a less visible little path and go on it. Now we won't get lost. The little path is skillfully led through forested slope in countless switchbacks. Now leaves have fallen and we walk on partly wet and dry leaves. About half an hour later the path from Korošica valley joins from right. To hunters' hut we walk about one and a half hours. Also from hunters' hut the path continues forward in switchbacks. From hut we must exactly count turns. At third turn we must not turn right. That path would bring us quite below the cave. From third turn again count turns and at sixth turn turn right and we're very quickly in front of cave-in half hour on lower path. We can also go further and come out to Ovčarija meadow or Mokriška planina. There I went and then descended on little path down to cave. Here even fast ones get lost-like me and I got quite tired to descend from scree back to little path. From this upper path we must not turn from little path to left-wrong. Zijalka or cave is not big. Inside damp, at end water on ground too. This cave was known already in 1839 as home of cave bears from ice age times-before 350,000 years ago. They excavated a lot and proved that ice age hunters hunted here too. Still some bone piece can be found.

Then I went on lower path back to hunters' hut and then also turned somewhere in middle of path to path that comes from Korošica valley. Down we reach road at sandpit. Of course with this move I added half hour walk on serpentine quite steep road to car.

From car to cave path thus takes around two hours.
If we go on foot from cable car then twice as much. Together thus 4-5 hours with return or 7-8 hours from cable car.
Path suitable only in dry seasons.

Today I checked out the cave again. I left the bike in peskokop, then along the mentioned path to the cave.
The path is fine, in the upper part below and above the hunting hut the consequences of the glaze ice storm are visible. Years ago I was looking for a passage to Košutna pasture. I went along the trail that turns left above the hunting hut and then climbed above Dedec to the marked path from Koren pasture to Planina Košutna. If anyone knows a more direct one, I'll be very glad for the info.

Just a little further from the spot where the path to Korošica valley branches off, the path forks, left up and right ahead, which is not very obvious.
The left one is secured with a cable in places and shorter. For easier orientation I built a cairn.

I'm not clear where it is, according to the description it's still in the lower part, these two paths join at the collapsed hunting hut.

Today I visited it. I was actually heading to Mokrica, but in fog and snow I didn't find the path from the cave onward. Next time.

Above the hunting hut I somehow by intuition found the junction to the cave. You count turns (left and right, also the first right above the hut), at the ninth turn (this one on right side) go right and slightly uphill. At the turn there's characteristic twisted tree (see picture).

Snow at cave (height by GPS 1528m) about 20 cm, path to cave now trampled, onward only about 100 meters, then didn't know where onward and turned back zmeden

Almost forgot: in Kamniška Bistrica they turned the no-entry sign and installed a signpost for car access to Konca or wherever.

The turn-off to the cave above the hunting hut is at the ninth bend by a hidden tree.2

Mokrica and the surroundings were shrouded in fog all day.5
Access to Konec is now legally possible again also by car.6

If someone goes towards Mokrica or Bear Cave, useful info that the road at Markova raven, where usually you can leave car, is completely muddy and impassable from Korošica valley direction. Don't know since when, as I was there a year ago.
Southern road along slopes of Kamniški vrh is nicely drivable, only on one part broken tree by road, needs some attention.
Space where parking is possible (photo 3 in the description), below completely destroyed road.1

Today the road to the sandpit was nicely drivable for a higher car. Snow on path just a sample, we trampled on dry leaves, because of which trail harder to follow. Above hunting hut few cm snow on frozen ground. In cave ice stalactites.

Yesterday I went with a group of seven people to this cave.
I've visited it several times before, yesterday for the second time with the group. The path is quite rarely visited and now, in the greatest vegetation above Markova Ravnja, somewhat overgrown.
To the hut we went via the longer hunting path (first time), because the more direct shortcut at the start is destroyed and obviously unused.
From the cave you can continue to Mokrica and Kompotela. After about an hour you arrive on a less visible path that towards the top merges into the marked path Kompotela - Mokrica.
The trip is recommended for people who love peace and really nice views.
From Mokrica to Kompotela and the nicest variant over Košutna, to planina Košutna and planina Koren to the valley.

The road for the van was not passable to the top, so we left the car about 100 elevation meters lower.

The path junction is approx. 60 to 70 meters below the parking towards the east, as seen on OpenStreetMap or Google Maps.

Since the sun showed after a long time, after work I skipped lunch and dashed to the Bear Cave.
Up the nicer path, down the longer one.
Path without special features.

Today from sandpit in Korošica valley past Bear Cave to Mokrica and Kompotela and further to Košutna. Over planina Košutna and Koren to Korošica valley. Path completely dry, some snow patch for refreshment.

Had to go see the stalactites before the thaw takes them cool
To the hunting hut, somewhere under the leaves, still hides some ice slab, but nothing critical. Further to the cave still quite some snow. But I missed one junction a bit and so we arrived at the cave from an unusual direction zadrega down by the "standard".

Bear Cave and return on upper hunting path. Lots of ticks. In the distance above Konj thunder was heard, but no rain above me. No time to go higher somewhere, started around 16.30.

Hi, I plan to go to the hunting hut below Medvedja cave and then above it along the cross path towards Dedec to the marked path. Has anyone walked it recently? Is the path normally passable?

The Korošica valley in the lower part is not passable (further from the first junction at the gorge), need to go via Brsniks. By car possible via Predoselje and Brsniks to sandpit, quite a big detour.
