Menina Pasture from the north – circular via Črnivec, Gornji Grad, Bočna – PD hut on Menina – Nova Štifta, past Toman, Črnivec

On the last summer Sunday I do a bike trip with ascent to Menina Pasture - on roads leading to it from the north side and mostly running in pleasant shade, uphill from Bočna and downhill to Nova Štifta. From both sides to the top (to the mountain hut) it's about 15 km climb, steeper from Nova Štifta, from Bočna up there's still some km of asphalt at the start. The road then is gravel and OK, but still I wouldn't recommend it for bikes with narrow tires and poor tread, ascent to the mountain hut is cca 1000 m, a bit more added at the end if from Nova Štifta and Tirosek you return past the Tourist/excursion farm Toman to Črnivec to avoid the relatively busy main road. On the gravel cars might throw some clouds of road dust at you, that's basically all the troubles on the path, as roads aren't very steep, intersections also quite well marked. Didn't notice blue-white mountain bike signs on the path, but yellow-white ones are there.

Menina Pasture is otherwise about 20 km long plateau (west - east direction), from Črnivec pass on the west and Lipa saddle on the east and lies at altitudes from 1200 - 1500 m and belongs to Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Mountain hut on Menina Pasture is at 1453 m.a.s.l. Plateau has quite karst surface forms, sinkholes and dolines, from north more overgrown with forest, south side more pastures. Highest peak is Vivodnik, best view from Goli vrh, from where besides surrounding hills and peaks you can see also Snežnik on the south and even Sljeme above Zagreb. cool

Menina planina – from the southern side, circular bike tour from Zg.Tuhinj over Češnjica, Okrog, to pl.Bibo and Menina, back to Bibo and along the middle traverse - forest road under Menina to Zg. Tuhinj

Southern side more scenic, more attractions along the way and road more gentle, consequently climbs easier too. Descent – junction just above Bibo, along the mid-hill traverse relatively easy, only lower part above Tuhinj steeper. Altogether up and down about 33 km, if start elsewhere e.g. more known Terme Snovik then another 20 km more. Tour can extend by turning left before last descent junction to Zg.Tuhinj then arrive to Golice village, from there on to the valley.

on the last steep section of the descent

Today to home Menina from Gornji Grad. Up over Borovnica down over Semprimož, both paths without special features. But obviously one of few still walking from valley as I was practically only pedestrian, on top quite some cars. Couple more pics. Regards
