Before the weather worsened, it was a pretty solid day to make use of. The goal was up to the last tunnel on the Mangart road, but I managed only a bit higher than Mesnovka. I drove to Mlinč, put on snowshoes and went first along the road then across the Stožje slide to the Mangart pasture and further through the forest, after the first tunnel across the road and via shortcut to Mesnovka. Snow around there is quite a lot, at the pasture around a meter, on Mesnovka even more. Walking was quite strenuous even though Igor had already broken the trail, but with each step I sank another 20 cm. Igor stopped at Mesnovka, I went a bit further but despite snowshoes sank almost half a meter. Higher, fog was descending too and in gusts it was really blowing. Back along the same incoming track.

Although I was up there last week and dm72 made some tracks, I went again this time. At Mangart pasture I first did a snowpack profile (for ARSO), then continued on my variant past the tunnels to the top of Mesnovka, there the CT stability test showed it was not safe to the saddle, also higher I saw two slab avalanches. Descent skiing was excellent, nature added its touch. nasmeh

Wonderful Sunday (21.2.) after skiing pulled me a bit more into the wilderness. First along the road, then past Mangart pasture and over Mesnovka to the last tunnel. Aim was to the saddle but lights went out too early and had to turn towards Strmec.
