M12 is a little-known trail to the wider public, which circles Mežica completely over 12 peaks. Locals know it better, it was created on the initiative of a local as a *recreational* variant of the better-known K24. However, the word *recreational* is quite misleading. The trail is suitable only for good hikers, experienced in various things, especially good orientation and occasionally secure footing. We hiked it completely, perhaps not necessarily on the original route. There are no dedicated markings indeed, most of the time we walked on unmarked paths. At a few points we did encounter old, decayed wooden M12 signs, but you can't rely on them. Most peaks are marked as key points, but obviously not all. We definitely visited the following, maybe a few more: Gorna, Vrh Steng, Jesenikov vrh, Pikov vrh, Veliki vrh, Kranjčev vrh, Jankovec, Kal, Predovnikov vrh, Andrejev vrh, Volinjak, Hamunov vrh and Kozlov hrib. We started at Spodnji Reht (near Čepin), continued towards Gorna, and finished via Kozlov hrib towards the starting point. The route in the entire loop descends sharply into the valley twice and rises equally on the opposite side, which requires good fitness. The descent from Šumahov vrh to the Meža valley is dangerously slippery due to the slope steepness and abundance of beech leaves. GPS navigation is almost essential due to the lack of markings and the continuous progress, or at least hiking with a knowledgeable companion. In short ... the entire M12 is a challenge of its own kind, suitable primarily for connoisseurs . We walked 31 km and 2650 m elevation gain, the route is visible from the GPS track. If anyone needs it, it's available from me. Some additional impressions are in the photo story ... GPS location of starting point: 46.529167, 14.828839
