Monte Avanza and Monte Chiadenis

We started at the central parking lot near the Piave springs. We went back some 100 m along the road by Cima Sappada and turned left at the sign for M. Avanza and Passo Cacciatori across the meadows. The path marked 173 initially doesn't rise at all, even turns slightly downhill, then finally goes a bit uphill and crosses the southern grassy slopes of Chiadenis, then at some point turns slightly downhill again and then finally just up. In the cirque where the ski touring route also runs and the marked path branches left, we went along the old mule track through the cirque, which higher up turns into a little path over steep scree and at the end into a rocky gully. At the jammed boulders on the right there are even a few m of torn cables installed, otherwise this spot is marked as II difficulty grade, but it's very short. Higher up we soon reach the mule track that comes from the west under the southern walls of Crete Cacciatorre. To the panoramic summit it's just a few minutes more. After a short rest we head along the mule track towards Cacciatori Pass, check out the caverns, there are quite a few here, and also pose a bit on the rocky spur. When crossing the hunting passage we turn under the eastern wall of Chiadenis and climb to the summit via ferrata, descend via the secured path along the SW ridge and to the Calvi hut for a drink. To the parking lot there's still a good 20 minutes of supply road, then we also check out the Piave Spring.

@ Edina, thanks for the idea where to go for the weekend . We chose a circular path over the most beautiful peaks around Rif. Calvi. From it we first via ferrata'd to Monte Chiadenis, descended the other side, continued to Monte Avanza and there marveled at human stupidity from WW1. On the way back from it we also did ferrata Sartor to Peralbo and return via the Pope's path back to the hut. The described loop takes about 10 hours and given the beautiful and scenic path is worth every minute. The difficulty of the ferratas is described many places and it's accurate. Maybe an interesting fact ... Rif. Calvi has a unique position and is very visited, but mostly day visitors. They head to the valley in the evening, so you can practically always sleep in the hut, even in August. For reservation besides Italian you can manage in German and English. Sleeping for PZS members, dinner and beer came to 33 € per person. They don't know beans, barley soup or jota, but you get two courses of different tasty menu dishes . Coffee is Italian good, boiled from pot they don't know either . Bill scribbled on a piece of paper, but it was correct. All in all it's so close to Slovenia that well-equipped can do the described loop in one day without issues. Highly recommend
