Monte Franza 2329 m

Things don't always go according to plan and today they didn't. With Rafko we initially planned to go to the mountains left of the Piave somewhere above Sappada, but we stayed a bit too long in the bar with the girls in Villa Santini, when we arrived in Sappada that side was in the shade, which we had anticipated anyway, and the southern and sunny slopes under Železna gora quickly lured us. Above Granvilo we find the start of path 141 for the direction of hut M. Ferro and we go first along and on the abandoned ski slopes all the way to the long-abandoned hut, then continue on a nice trail all the way up to lakes Olbe. The views of the surrounding mountains, most of which I've already stood on, were beautiful. From the lakes we climbed to the Mulo pass, then I quickly convinced Rafko that we won't get this close to Monte Franza again anytime soon and we descended to the eponymous saddle, then up through the grass. Last year end of June with Marjeta we lay more than half an hour on this saddle and finally gave up on Franza. At the caverns we leave our backpacks, find the faded orange dot and cairn and scramble into the south wall, where the route higher up is indicated only by a few isolated cairns, the wall is short, quite exposed, reaches a good II degree of difficulty. Monte Franza is not some big mountain, more a small pile of rocks with a small inconspicuous cross on top, in the midst of magnificent mountains, but still an interesting goal with nice view. It shows the most beautiful appearance from the sources of Piave under Peralba. We descend along the already known route from the description (last PV), which is snowy and requires quite some caution. There follows an easy descent through grass to saddle Franza and back up to pass Mulo, then down to the chapel by the lakes and along path 141 back to the starting point.

Igor, were you standing on one leg at the top of Terza Grande? velik nasmeh
I almost laughed when you wrote that Monte Franza is inconspicuous. To me it seems something special, interesting, maybe even a bit scary. Probably it's precipitous on the other side. It really squeezes you.
Nice pictures.

There's really not much space on top of Terza Grande, but there are other peaks with even less space. Tisa, if you saw the surrounding mountains, you'd quickly agree that MF is just a pile of rocks among higher mountains. Yes it's quite steep, the most "gentle" from the south side. One of the best views of it is from the source of the Piave.
