Monte Rinaldo 2473

The mountain above Val Visdende has been on my wish list for a few years. Yesterday I cycled to Val Visdende, this morning I started from below by the Piave river and up path 143, where you can see that few people walk. Initially steeply uphill, then along a nice mulatiera all the way to Forcella Piccola, from there ascent (30 min.) to Monte Carro, back down and onwards, where the path is no longer so nice, but more marked pathless terrain, you have to go quite high under Cima Mezzano, then down again a lot, where I finally reach path 130, which leads to Forcella Grande. There I catch up with local Sara, who went mushroom picking and got lost towards Rinaldo, intentionally of course, as otherwise they wouldn't let her go alone from home. Together we go to the summit, where we also sit for a long time. Then back down to the big notch and along path 130 to Val Visdende. Beautiful mountain with excellent views of the Dolomites, which were mostly in mist, well when I get to the car there was already a thunderstorm.

Starting point was Cima Canale (Val Visdende valley), at the closed refuge Alle Buone Arie. I ascended to the summit and descended from it via CAI path 130. At the edge of the forest line there is a junction of CAI paths 130/143, via the latter Igor came ten years ago (above description). I looked around a bit in that direction, but quickly gave up the desire for thorough exploration. Already the start of path 143 is indistinct, everything overgrown, after a few steps bushes up to armpits. Maybe I'll visit Monte Carro and Cima Mezzano in autumn when it's less hot, from the other side. Soon above the junction I reached the beautiful little valley Valle delle Forcellette, from where the summit part of Rinaldo was already visible. At the end of the little valley, where the path steepens and leads to Forcella Grande, I got a bit tangled, as I missed the cairns showing the path on the other side of the gully, the way I continued myself. The summit part of the mountain, from the "forcella" upwards, is relatively demanding, in places you grope with one hand, instead of CAI markers there are red blazes for orientation. The summit itself is expansive and incredibly panoramic, from the High Tauern to Dolomites and Carnics, you don't know where to look when there's so much beauty. The nearby Monte Peralba with its vassals, if I may call the surrounding peaks that, including Cresta Righile ending at Monte del Ferru, attracts looks the most. Just below the summit there is some terrace, there was an observatory during WWI. I descended the same path and enjoyed every moment as on the way up. Unforgettable nasmeh
