Mrzovec

On Saturday we were on Mrzovec, located in the heart of the Trnovo Plateau. It's 1410 meters high. We drove to Lokev, turned towards Predmeja and at the first intersection on the right side of the road by the wooden table and bench we parked and then headed left uphill. Although it wasn't the first ascent, the newly built path misled us, as we should have taken the narrower trail five meters higher than the new road (see picture). Due to the mistake, we wandered blindly for a while on Trnovo paths, but then we sniffed out the right direction and a rock with Mrzovec inscription appeared before us. Since it wasn't too late, we headed straight to the summit and after a 50-minute ascent we found ourselves in front of a stone tower, recorded our names, Davide climbed the tower for a wider view as trees block it lower down. In this winter time Mrzovec is extremely attractive due to its ivy. About 10 cm of snow on top, the forest trail wasn't icy. Temperature around zero degrees with a light wind blowing.

Start in Solkan, then towards Lokve to Trnovo and there right to Rijavci. Soon on well-maintained macadam to Krnica, then north to the first path barrier on the left. Macadam worse from here, so Slavica and I slipped around. Cart track ended in grassy path to foot of Mrzovec, where we parked bikes and did last 50m elevation on foot. Returned same way. Since path mostly through forest perfect for hot days. Nice tour.

It's demanding, yes, doing 1300 elevation without fitness nasmeh

. Well, Slavica and I active all year, so 3 hours uphill pedaling not such agony. No heat, started at 6.00 mostly forest. On descent...won't believe, gloves and jacket almost to bottom. No ticks, some flies for protein diet nasmeh

macadam paths from Rijavci to Krnica gone for years, now almost to Krnica (hang gliding take-off) road asphalted.

But tour really good for burning calories.

with road it's like....to hang gliding ramp asphalt, then macadam, bit before Krnica again some asphalt. Then only macadam..towards Mrzovec.

Today was a beautiful wonderful day and as true nature lovers and all that's beautiful in it, we decided to visit in the heart of Trnovo plateau, hill Mrzovec 1410m high. From Solkan drove up to Trnovo, continued to Lokvam. At turn for Zavrh turned right on macadam and drove to junction connecting macadam between Nemci village and Rijavci or Krnici. Drove up steep macadam road and parked suitably, continued ascent on road, at (first) junction turned left and after 300m walk turned right and on snowy macadam continued to end of road. Here path climbs steep track and after good 800m reach macadam road, turn left along it under foot of Mrzovec, turn left and after 5 min at top. Top had about 10cm snow. After short rest and snack and beautiful views of surrounding peaks and sea slowly descend to start, enjoying beautiful nature. Also training before Saturday ascent to Kredarica.

Today was already fourth consecutive mountain feat in a beautiful wonderful day. Definitely days to use and breathe fresh air. Temperature 3 degrees above zero. In heart of Trnovo plateau hill Mrzovec 1410m and for that we decided today. Won't describe path specially, path same as 28.12.2011. Change was snow much higher and bit more, top up to 20cm. Also path we took much more snowy and hard. After longer almost hour panorama of beautiful surrounding peaks and sea slowly descend to start, enjoying beautiful nature, today peaceful quiet disturbed only by many plane overflights.

The path is somewhat overgrown in places, otherwise passable.

And my contribution from the path to Mrzovec and around. Only the path from Turški klanec to Mrzovec is marked. But it seems few people walk it, as it's quite overgrown. Yesterday we were soaked to the knees from tall grass. In under an hour and a half we were at the top of Mrzovec at the pyramid. Even climbed to the top. But I don't recommend climbing to the top, because when you reach the end of those steps it's hard to pull yourself up. Especially today it was a bit awkward as everything was wet. But from up there you see the entire Trnovo Plateau. Then descent followed. At the beginning of the descent to Nemci the path is completely overgrown and unnoticeable, actually pathless. This path is unmarked. After fifteen minutes we reach a forest road and descend into the valley on it. Getting to Nemci on this path is a real hit-or-miss, because there are lots of intersections of these forest roads and now hit the right one. Without Tadej's help with the mobile it would be weird. Don't recommend this descent. Much better to return the way you came. But since this was my scouting for my pensioners and rated too difficult, we went to check Črni vrh near Lokve village. By road in three quarters of an hour to the top of the panoramic peak with transmitter. We had a nice sunny day, previous day it rained, so we were quite soaked from wet grass.
