If you walk a lot, then take a 250mg magnesium tablet in the evening after dinner. Since I take this, I have no problems with it, before lots. It's true that I'm not every day in action like that, so I take it normally, and some amino acid also isn't bad (proteins). lp

There is so much "junk and additives" in our daily food that one magnesium tablet won't cause additional harm, but will help to reach the goal. Otherwise, the human body is anyway pure chemistry.

Since I go almost every day to nature for an hour on hills, I have no cramps; in summer because of long tours towards the end I swallow a couple of grains of salt, if I sense that in about one-two-three hours I will be a bit weaker.

Towards the top, if it's a long tour, a bit of magnesium helps http://www.hribi.net/slike/smile.gif

Drago... I agree... cramps are the least of what happens to you in the mountains. So.... But it is annoying and painful and it worried me a bit, because until now these problems haven't occurred I'll try with Donat before the tour and also with magnesium in the backpack next to salt... Winter will (if at all) quickly end and with that longer, more demanding tours

All that you take is poor fitness and nutrition.

@LG.. I definitely fully agree with you that today nutrition, stress etc. is largely to blame... sadly, in such a world we young live.. let's leave it But I don't agree with you regarding fitness, I run at least 7km every day or go min 15x monthly to some hill, do extra sports when time allows. So when talking about a 7km run, not even short of breath.. so unfit by your opinion?? So how do I manage then and still get leg muscle cramps? I don't know

If LG is just blabbering some nonsense as usual. Even mountain runners have trouble with cramps. Probably because they have too little fitness Matej-style or eat badly

Maybe this tip would be welcome to some: Sour juice of pickled cucumbers and other veg should be an effective remedy against muscle cramps that hit us when overdoing workout (admit it, it really happens then). There are several studies, but no solid proof except satisfied users. Maybe this sour-salty taste tricks the brain into relaxing the muscles. Apparently some athletes and trainers swear by this juice, it impressed me too, so pickled cucumbers with a bit of liquid are always with me in the hills. Also salt and tonic, which contains quinine that is supposed to prevent cramps too. My experiences are such that if I consider my current physical fitness and adapt my walking tempo to my capacities at that time, cramps do not appear, but if I follow the dictated, faster tempo (meaning I walk faster than I would alone), cramps appear. That's why I don't like larger groups where people are very "pumped", they stop rarely, and at the top it turns out that we beat the prescribed time by an hour or two. It is also true that until a couple of years ago, I didn't know muscle cramps, but since they appeared for the first time, they have of course appeared a second and third time too.

Ločanka, we're already two otherwise it's very related to fitness and quite a bit to EMŠO Otherwise I solve it with a big plate of salted macaroni the night before the hike and lots of fluids (winter at least 2l, summer 4l with magnesium) and smart walking - listening to the fatigue of my body and adjusting the pace accordingly.....
