I know this narcissus viewing topic is already quite worn out, but nevertheless....After a few-year delay in viewing the beautiful narcissi or keylocks, as locals call them, it's finally time to take a close look at them. And today we took the time with the family. It was definitely very educational for me, my wife and the kids, above all a very intimate relation to our beautiful nature. One simply has to go there, sit down, take a moment or two and feel that moment: "Where silence whispers..." LP Andrej

Well written. We admired them today on Vremščica. While ascending, we met lots who were already returning. And in every family or couple (really without exception) the ladies were carrying a bouquet downhill. When at about the tenth such "specimen" I couldn't hold my tongue anymore and commented aloud, the ladies replied to me that there are still plenty more.... I really don't understand how little respect for the beautiful nature people have, even those who call themselves hikers...

I believe you Gita, how it is for you. I bring mountain flowers home only in my camera. I too have comments flying out about cows trampling flowers. With us it's usually gentians or lilies. Lately I notice in the hills a new "type of folk" for whom the mountains are meant, to show off there in their gear, to watch over nature or greet someone, or move aside on a narrow path when meeting, come on. Hey, it's not like one can talk.

Yes, it's really sad how some pretend to be what they're not...real hikers are already a rarer species...sad )) That's why we like to retreat there where we rarely meet such tourists. Safe steps to all...

Unfortunately hikers are just people too, meaning that if something is offered for free and in abundance, these people become like livestock. We pick, bite, attack and bark. Ridiculous. Well, thank God the apparently endangered species of kl'učavn'c has held up quite well to this day, especially considering that decades ago we carried them home in such bunches that our heads actually hurt from their scent for a whole week. No, no mistake, I was far from the only one. On May 25th celebrations, the big meadow behind and on Pristava was all trampled, as hordes of kids from almost all Slovenian elementary and high schools gathered there then, not to mention the scouts, which sadly there will never be as many as you could see on that day in Javorniški Rovte. But kl'učavn'c are still as many or even more than those years, and people respect them much more, to which awareness and the spirit of love for nature contribute. I think that individuals and families with their visiting and picking bunches won't destroy nature, but industry does that with pollution. So no exaggerating, neither in picking nor in condemning it.

Well some think that when people pick narcissus flowers they're destroying them but you should know that the narcissus has most of its life cycle underground and by picking flowers we don't destroy the plant, since the bulb stays in the ground and survives. For bulbs it's even healthy to take them out of the ground every now and then and wait for them to dry and put them back in the ground in autumn. Then they bloom nicer. An example is the tulip, which won't bloom for you after 5 years if you leave it in the ground, because the bulb will deepen so much it can't bloom anymore. So those few narcissi that a person takes from the meadow on the mountain don't cause great damage to the flowers.

On Sunday we witnessed the Slovenian pilgrimage to Golica. In the crowd of visitors there was much to hear, even more to see. In the afternoon I took this photo on Planina pod Golico. I don't know if the author of the act among the narcissi was expressing his ideological affiliation or helplessness after a tiring day. I invite the owner of the hiking poles forgotten at the lower cable car station to contact me at viktor.zemljic@gmail.com

Since time didn't allow before, this year we went to Plavški rovt a bit later than last year, where we viewed the white fields of narcissi with family and friends. The narcissi are already closing and wilting, nevertheless we spent a wonderful afternoon in the company of white princesses. LP Andrej
