A nice viewpoint with a short and easy approach was yesterday's substitute goal due to a weather front rapidly approaching from Slovenia. Start from the Italian side of the border crossing Predel at the edge of the meadow towards Jerebice. The former border path appears in the forest and is nicely traceable. No markings, three cairns at unimportant points. One can stray into two gullies, so be careful. The summit section of the path has seen better times but is not problematic. The summit is the last in the chain with a fortification on the right side, approach via a slightly more demanding notch. On the return the path is not so nicely traceable, so be careful. No more snow. LP

Today's attempt to ascend to the top of Nemške Glave was prevented by snow, which successfully hid the path from my (unknown) predecessor and me, and also the short day combined with late start did its part. I started at half past twelve, the forest trail in the lower part is dry and nicely followable. After crossing the gully the path moves away from it and bypasses it in an arc. Above it patches of snow appeared, which grew from step to step. Looking at Predelske Glave, which were sunning dry on the other side of the pass, I realized I chose the wrong viewpoint for this time. The snow was hard, didn't sink in, just right for walking, I didn't use snow gear. Smaller iced chimney on the path could be bypassed without issues. When I saw from the predecessor's tracks that higher up, already in the bushy terrain, he turned back, I decided to continue anyway. I followed the "jagged" markings and with the help of snow that "laid down" the bushes, broke through to the sunny ridge. I had some time left before the sun set behind Jerebica and enjoyed the views and warmth, which surprisingly wasn't spoiled by the wind up there, which otherwise blew on the open most of the way. I returned on my own tracks. I'll continue... in dry nasmeh

Today I did this tour, short but sweet. Once I went on our side, in vain, didn't see the summit. Today I decided on the Italian side and it is quite easy. Be careful at two important points: first after 10 minutes of walking carefully observe the arrow on the right side on the tree, here we leave our side and follow the well-trodden path; when we reach the gully, cross it and immediately on the left bank ascend the less visible pathlet which quickly brings us to the well-trodden path that comes from the first bend below the border crossing marked with red dots. A bit higher the path from our side joins and we arrive at the stamp box. From the stamp box the path leads through bushes to the remains of the military tavern, here remember the path or some landmark for the return; today I fixed all cairns and placed some new ones for easier ascent and descent. Safe and happy to all. Viewpoint such that there is none around with that height...

German Heads we chose because of the young hiker who is just paving her way and gaining experience for upcoming challenges. Young ones need to be taught that hiking is not a walk but much more. In mountains every step must be thoughtful, inventiveness in bushes, importance of cairns, etiquette when meeting others, that we take trash to the valley, and more. Tinkara today you were good and you know that if you know the goal you will find the path easier. // German Heads is a border mountain between Slovenia and Italy, starting at border crossing Predel. Two unmarked paths lead to the summit: Slovenian a bit harder, Italian easier if you don't miss it in the middle of the forest. It is an amazing viewpoint on Lago del Predil, western Julians, Mangart and Jalovec, mighty Loski wall, spectacular Jerebica and in the distance Kanin mountains.

...from Log pod Mangartom... Years ago I got a tip, the idea has been sitting and waiting diligently until now, and since the neighboring side from Planinica excited us so much, we decide and go to see our adventure eye to eyevelik nasmeh
There are basically no descriptions, otherwise I found a scant description that didn't help us much, but we at least had info on the path start… Bojan THANKS!mežikanje
We drive to Log pod Mangartom, where before the start of the climb to Strmec, on the right side we park. We walk through Log, and at the chapel we turn right onto the side road, to the fire station, or. to the tunnel that once served for transporting people and cargo to Rajbel. Here we turn left onto the path to/past the Gorejca waterfall and soon after that the path takes us to the right, on trees poorly visible red dots, but according to our "map" from mapzs, we soon realize that this is not it. We return and continue crossing further above Log, past the clearing where the Encijan ski slope is, and over the wooden bridge and oops... this is perhaps the right junctioneek. Each on their own side, higher up we meet, and follow the path, lose it, go one floor higher, and catch a nice, wide trail, past the idyllic hut and yellow marks on trees "waterfall". Here we cross the streambed to the right, when it starts to seemingly close, and since we went a bit too high, we search for quite a while, and hooray, we find the path that is nicely traceable. Through the forest, over another smaller streambed, where our marks are sawn branches. Really nicely traceable path, and whoever maintains it, all praise!nasmeh We arrive at the edge, and up the shoulder, where the key moment is. The path led us left, here we should have stuck to the shoulder, as we later realized, the path leads to the saddle called Predolina, I think under Ruševa glava. But slowly, to there was still a looong labyrinth for us, hehe. We go left, again a suspicious junction, but we continue at left pace. The path becomes steeper and steeper, we even hit a wire rope, for which I would pay a dinar if it were only a bit longerjezik. Above the wire we hit a salt lick, but the path doesn't appeal to us, as it goes too much left and away from our direction. We return, I in my descent style grab everything from leaves to branches, roots, nothing fancy crossing. We return to the "junction" and head into the leafy wide valley, and find the track, hooray, this is it, we think, each in their own cloudvelik nasmeh. Along the streambed and when it ends, again dilemma, sawn branches lead us left, right under the walls, but again it's strange, where left?!! And when the path starts descending back into the forest, we decide to return to the streambed. Here on open terrain we notice a path on the other side, under Ruševa glava, or at least it seemed so, so we decide to continue through the leafy paradise that slips to…jezen all the way to the saddle Predolina. There we hit a salt lick and yessss, from the right a distinct path joins and continues left. Here follow carefully, as the path is routed along the edge, but as soon as you enter the forest, it disappears. The path winds around the hill, left, then along the streambed, where more sawn trees mislead us, but we soon return and higher we hit an even more distinct path, which we suspect is from the wire upwards, which we abandoned because it seemed too "left", hmm and a new blister is already growingvelik nasmeh. The path, which is more and more sawn, even a cairn, I think the first one we meet, winds around the hill, then reaches a mini saddle, a little dilemma which peak is our peak, but after another misleading path, note, here we already turned onto the path that comes from Predel, hmm, finally we stand on the summit of German Heads, when it pinches, ouch, no mercy from above, hahaha. Snack under the shelter, obligatory photos and admiring the Jerebica wall, which is really wauuu from here, and a glimpse into Italy, which is so close and yet so farmrk pogled. Since it started to get cold and only half the path was done, we descend. At the junction left leads the path to the "Italian" bend before Predel, we2 to the right, where we fight and beat through bushes for quite a nice time. The path is visible and branches are sawn, but still bushes lie on the path and walking is quite hindered. After a while we reach the forest and the trouble ends. We cross the streambed where there is still snow and of course, on the other side there is a distinct path that misleads us again and when it starts ascending, alarm, we turn and recross the snow, it's quite tricky as there is emptiness below and holes visible here and there, but we catch the path and I'm already screaming at Predelcool. We succeededvelik nasmeh.
And of course, the story isn't over yet… descent to the car is a chapter in itself. We descend via Julika-trail, which it is and I definitely recommend it, spiced with steepness, originally routed, past Predel waterfall and Zaročenca waterfall, recommend viewing, for variety cables and what is the best of all, after the whole day let's go a bit up, a bit downjezik and since we at least this time planned ahead, we fell into the car's embrace. Warm beer, heated car, tired bodies, but whatever, we found it, at least one of the pathlets that hide and tempt… description-record maybe confused, but mine, it's hard to describe where and how. Here there are so many pathlets that are "delicious" and lead you to visit them, step on them, but we2 relied on our mapzs map and feeling, which is very important. The path is sometimes distinct, visible and nicely traceable, then it just disappears. No climbing, it's routed through nice natural passages, but from the saddle onwards it winds like a snake and really confuses orientation. It was time-consuming and tiring, as in searching you must be "ready" for everything and more, hehe, but when you succeed… I almost burst with satisfaction, hahaha, as we solved one more riddle and created at least one more… but whatever, that's the charm of exploring, right.
To possible repeaters… persistence and endurance, and joy in everything you don't expect… we2 enjoyed more thannasmeh

rozka,
super, nice and fine nasmeh

You've done Planinica, Nemške glave too, now it's really time for Ruševa glava under Loška stena. Peter Podgornik in Primorske stene writes about the peak like this: "...Ruševa glava (1606 m), paradise for chamois and hunters, surrounded by deep gullies on both sides". Lukež got me excited for the summit and gave me some very useful info, the late Fredi added a bit about those areas. Here it's written enough to imagine where the summit is with the help of the map, then feet on the path and good luck. I succeeded the second time mežikanje

rozka,
there's too much of everything and my ascent dates back a few years before the fatal avalanche, so the memory of the path is quite faded. I know that near the HE we didn't find the little bridge (maybe we didn't even know about it, forgotten), so we waded across Koritnica barefoot. Then with the path or following it there were no problems to the end of the forest road, beyond which we barely found something like pathlets. High under the summit we went more by nose, there on the first attempt with my buddy we headed too far left, assuming that we had to climb to the summit via the slope that we had observed many times from the bench in front of the chapel above Strmec. The terrain on the left was very steep, partly really nasty. After the failed ascent, Lukež explained to us that higher up we should "keep" more to the right to find tracklets that lead to some kind of notch, saddle under the summit. The second time I remember that at the end of the forest road beyond the gully we more persistently searched for the pathlet and found it, from memory a bit more to the left, looking up, than in the first failed attempt, which was the key to the successful ascent. See "access a" on the upper link (Primorske stene). The summit itself also "escaped" my memory, i.e., what the views are like and how many there are, since the summit is wooded, at least it was. I know that through the trees you could see both the valley and the cliffs of Loška stena, I also remember the incredibly beautiful terrain right under the wall. And huge snowfields, in many places also fabulous cornices at the edge with the wall. Let me add that we reached the summit with poles in our hands, so it's just demanding pathless terrain, no technical difficulties.

rozka,
the Parabola waterfall is also nice, if you go above it (left beside it, ascending) along a nice path, you reach higher on the hunting trail, path that then crosses far to the right under Loška stena, all fairly easy to pass, to the spot where the hunting bivouac once stood - approx. under Oblica (helicopter delivered it, avalanche destroyed it). From there pretty easy to Planinica, which you already know, so descent from it too mežikanje

On Saturday we went to explore the path to the German Heads, planning to go up the border or Slovenian path, down the Italian path. Going up went well for a while, of course a couple of fallen trees on the path is no obstacle if you are used to it. It got a bit tricky because according to the description we didn't decide to cross the gully to the left, as it looked nasty there with wet and slippery ground. That's why we probably bashed through more brush than necessary, but we still found the right path anyway, of course with searchingnasmeh. There are practically no cairns on the whole path.
We descended to the notch directly, of course with a lot of caution, but it went fine. To the top of the German Heads then without problem, only the weather was worsening, so we abandoned the idea of continuing towards Planja, but we discovered the path to therenasmeh.
Good that we knew that an even better view opens at the military ruins a bit beyond the top, towards NW somehow. But again it didn't go without complications. Once you find the little path and the continuation among the ruins, you have to look for the branch of the path to the left there, and very soon you can straighten upnasmeh. But it is worth it and necessary to get there, as only there do really beautiful views open up.

We returned via the Italian path, so at the notch you need to turn left, below cross the Predelnica stream and you reach the road at the third bend under Predel. Thus we made a loop and also learned about the complications on these paths. But we looked towards the Predel peaks the whole way, which were inviting a visit.

We made several conclusions. The first at Rabeljsko Lake, the second at Rabeljsko Waterfall, the last one in Pizzeria Kotnasmeh. Really good daynasmehnasmeh!
