St. Jakob is a popular spot for Preddvor locals and the nearby area. We can also take three-year-olds on a very short hike, only a half-hour path to the New or Deserted Castle. Leave the vehicle at the parking lot by the Nursing Home and head along the gravel road to the starting point for the marked trail to St. Jakob. Right after the starting point, the sign directs us left to the marked path to the ruins of the Deserted Castle. From the starting point to the ruins we have only about twenty minutes. The castle was first mentioned in the twelfth century. Local conquerors such as the Turks destroyed it. Finally, an earthquake destroyed it in the sixteenth century. Today only ruins remind us of the castle. Here we have a panel with a description of its history and also a booklet for entries. For rest, there are quite a few benches placed around the ruins.]]>
