Notch below Prestreljenik

From the road in Krnica along the logging road towards station B. Snow starts at height approx. 1300m, at station C there's over 40 cm, higher up at least 60 cm. Skiing conditions very good up to 1800m (pršič), lower south-facing but still satisfactorily skiable snow, all the way to the second hollow below station C (ca. 1450 m.a.s.l.).

Who would be angry about a missed weather forecast, better to use such a gifted day. I drive to Neveja saddle and climb up the road over the ski slope to Gilberti hut under shady Canin then on to Prevala, where I catch the sun, follows ascent to Škrbina under Prestreljenik, then short descent to upper station of sunny Kanin gondola. Short snack, then back to the notch, down to border Prevala, go to Golovec saddle, where I miss the gondola to Gilberti by just a few minutes, no problem, I have enough time and slowly return to the valley.
High mountain ski area Kanin and Canin invite.

are these huge remains of snow and ice heralding a new ice age or just the consequence of the snow-rich last winter

Preval ski slope has more than enough snow

on Kanin it is real winter, only skiers are missing

machines are leveling the ski slope, the supply road is also disappearing

there will still be quite some work, the clods are large

the new ski area is along the right slopes, arrows indicate places threatened by avalanches from the northern side of Prestreljenik

this should be considered, also on the sunny side of Kanin

Today I went with Janez and Iztok on skis from Neveja saddle over Prevala to the top, where the chairlift goes. On the Italian side from Prevala to the top it was blowing hard, visibility was worse. View of Kanin ski area is really beautiful, test runs are operating as ski season opening approaches. Ski area is groomed, track for hikers is all along the ski slope. LP Andrej

P.S. If someone maybe knows if the mentioned saddle connection between ski areas (pic 13) has a name, I would appreciate the info.

The name of the mentioned saddle no.13 is Škrbina pod Prestreljenikom 2289m.

Otherwise viharnik already replied, but I also sent ZS, probably you didn't notice. State border runs at Prevala, so then you walk on Slovenian side, where you say it was windy. The saddle where you arrived has name Škrbina pod Prestreljenikom, locals simply call it Sedlo, as the old chairlift was called, which ran from gondola station to the top of this saddle.
Anyway you probably caught the last days when it's possible on skis from Neveja, namely when ski area operates Italians don't allow walking up the ski slopes. Well for me this ascent is favorite in spring months when it warms up, because now back there it's hellishly cold.

Ski touring from the Italian side over Sella Nevea. Until opening especially excellent descent - enough snow, except at the foot, need to be careful because of rocks.

On the first winter day it's right to go see the winter. From Krnica high pasture to Preval, then to Golovec saddle and back to Preval, and up the ski slope to the Notch below Prestreljenik. Yeah there it's already winter nasmeh

On Tuesday I was on Prestreljenik. Snow was wet and south-facing. We started from B station of Kanin cable car. There's still enough snow, just skiing conditions are getting rarer

I'm interested in the path conditions. I plan to go with snowshoes, wondering if the snow packs well, plan is to go on Sunday. Is the ski slope still operating and is it ok to go to Gilbert hut right along the ski slope?

In Kanin Mountains despite weekly heat there's still plenty of snow. On sunny exposed areas it's thinned a lot or gone, in shady areas it still persists and is harder in depth, compact, melting only slowly.
Parking in Žlebe was almost empty today despite promised heat records, as above 2200m it was much cooler with mountain breeze. The two caver hikers hardly sank, so they advanced quickly to their new cave. Skiing down for this date without complaints, even with some positive surprise. Gilberti was closed, only some cable car mechanic was active up there. On return I stopped at middle Rabeljsko lake and refreshed legs to knees in icy Jezernica. With cooling I think summer ski conditions will be downright ideal. Lp
