Old Castle above Smlednik

Yesterday, after the morning cleaning of walnut leaves on the streets, I finally found some time in the afternoon for an MTB tour.
I ride to Medno, there over the suspension bridge across the Sava to Vikrče, Zavrha below Šmarna gora, and further across the posh golf course to the junction for the Old Castle. The gravel road steeply shoots up the hill, finally at the way of the cross it flattens a bit, then again a long steep traverse to the right and a left bend to the top. For a mere 200 elevation gain, this hill unexpectedly nicely warms you up. At the top, an open hut with drinks is operating, quite a few visitors too. The south wind was blowing and it was that real autumn day. I park the bike and hop along a short ferrata to the castle wall, climb over the wall there, and already on the other side tourists look at me surprised, wondering where I came from. So they don't nick my bike, I quickly descend through Zbilje, Medvode, Ladja, and Medno, dashing home. Excellent viewpoint! No pics, the camera rested at home.

Before the renewed heat and yesterday's return from the Dalmatia Trogir oven, it was better to move a bit again, so not too early in the morning I did the loop Ljubljana - Vikrče - Smlednik - Zbilje - Ladja - Seničica - Ljubljana. Cyclists were quite a few on the roads, at Medno also a big group of Englishmen. I didn't take pics on the roads, Lp!

At sunset I rode a nice MTB loop Medno, Ladja, Smlednik, Vikrče, across the wooden bridge over Sava, Šentvid. On the bike with speed it is a bit cooler, cyclists also a couple. After the tour I went to the winter garden to pick ferns for two shoes , no pics from the tour.

Even at 17:30 the heat wasn't letting up, so with MTB I did just a loop through Zbilje.
On the way humid, already on the Vikrče climb I almost cooked , further, when the cardiovascular flow sets in and you start breathing through the skin, it went easier already. At the Smlednik golf academy even a little breeze over the Old Castle hill. I turn to Zbilje to view the lake and ducks, then extend through Ladja and over Medno to end the nice tour. On this trail little traffic, just right for carefree cycling.

Viharnik, all delicious calories from the picnic you burn without problem on such a humid and demanding MTB tour. Watch out not to burn out - other athletes at this hour are in the shade drinking cold beer!

Saturday 9.1.2021, cycling
Who would have thought that last year's last trip and the first this year's would have the same goal of 1st stage 
From home to Tacen, after the bridge left past the police academy and through Vikrče to Smlednik. There steeply right up to Old Castle, the climb to the top is steep, especially the last gravel before the upper parking is brutal. Well, at least for me, the better conditioned probably have a different opinion  Enjoying the view, remembering tours done on mountains that the eye gazed at, also some rest and refreshment. Followed a neck-breaking descent and continuation to Zbilje lake. There chat with swans and ducks, a bit of thinking about this and that, and on to Medvode, from there through Medno, Stanežiče and Gunclje home. Pleasantly lonely on the road, no ice, weather great and feeling clear. In one word excellent
