Old Kugy path and northern ridge to Triglav (20.07.19)

From Luknja I descend about 250m elevation and continue towards Dolič. The view back to the beautiful mulatiera is really incredible. At similar height as Luknja on the left side stands what they affectionately call Jolanda. Here starts the old Kugy path, initially a well visible trail, but later it all fades away. The exit under Plemenice was right, maybe the gully before was some other one and not original. Continued directly up into the wall. To northern ridge difficulty II-III, ridge to tower II. It was great as no crowd to the top, from here on procession. Descended via Tominšek's to check that snow patch. Some here "rope up" too much, if you want to avoid it just go over Prag. No winter gear needed here for this gully. In a day or two maybe worse as need to climb a bit more, otherwise snow will melt in a week (10 days). Parking fee collected in the morning, if too early and no collector, they charge you when you leave.

Bravo Redbull! You made me lust for it, I've only heard about this approach to the top, now that you've nicely posted photos too, the desire is even greater. Would you repeat it with me? Did the route Vrata - Luknja - Jolanda - Old Kugy path - Plemenice - Triglav (sunset) - Planika - Triglav (sunrise) - Kredarica - Tominšek path - Vrata.
Hit the old Kugy path well, some red dots, a cairn and wire confirmed it.
Except at the top, otherwise mostly enjoyed solitude, experienced beautiful evening and wonderful morning on top of our beautiful homeland.

We both went on Tuesday morning from Log in Trenta along that path Bojan described. You arrive exactly at the parking lot in Zadnjica. In the morning very few vehicles were parked. Midweek shows. Chatted with Vinkot and Justi. Told them where we're going. To the question if also to Triglav they said no, because this path will already be a big enough challenge for one day. If you count the descent. For Kugy path we didn't even know well how it'd go for us. Thanks to Jernej for pics and description. Quite handy. Path steep all the way. Over some annoying scree fields had to go. Despite navigation we missed some passages. From pics found that wall part where all three fixed ropes are in good condition. Higher up should go more right, but we went too direct. Steepness quite demanding. Then no more issues. Exactly on path arrived at rear part of Plemenice. And surprised we did a bit over 1900m elevation to Morbegna. There short rest and descent past Dolič on known mulattiera to Log in Trenta. Sky completely closed. All gray. But no rain. Snowfield under Dolič remaining is no problem. Snow on Triglav slabs neither. In the end about 24 km. For our age quite fine. Both happy we hiked this path. nasmeh (11.07.2023)

Has anyone been on this path recently? What's the marking condition from "Jolanda" onwards?

Was there three weeks ago. Path not marked, it's (difficult) unmarked track. If you have off-trail experience, nose for following and sometimes bit of imagination you can follow it (with good tour prep/following description). Some red dots and cairns found, but rare. If anything else interests you, happy to reply. Otherwise nice hike, solitary, pristine, where peace disturbed only by constant tourist helicopter overflights.
