Olympus (GR) + Golem Korab (MK) - Who's joining

In September, most likely 9 to 13 September, we're going to conquer the highest peaks of Greece and Macedonia. Everyone is welcome to join us. So you too.
The program is as follows:
1. day: morning departure from Slovenia and evening arrival in Mavrovo, overnight there.
2. day: departure to Golem Korab 2754 m and return same day. Then sleep in Ohrid.
3. day: departure from Ohrid to Litochoro (seaside town at foot of Mount Olympus). In the afternoon ascent to a hut below foot of Mount Olympus and sleep in hut.
4. day: ascent to highest peak of Olympus range namely MYTIKAS 2917 m and return from mountain and afternoon departure back to Ohrid or overnight in Litochoro.
5. day: drive back home.
Costs? Everyone covers own costs, with group departure we can save some on transport costs. Otherwise I'll organize (or help organize) accommodations in Macedonia and Greece.

The ascent can be compared to Grintovec or Mala Mojstrovka regarding ridge walking; first part forest, second bare rock; hike not dangerous at all, except last few 100 m.

Departure date would be Thursday, 16 September morning and return Monday, 20 September evening. On request of most going, plan can change.
Thursday morning we leave Slovenia (we'll arrange pickup along the way) and after 10-11 hours arrive in Mavrovo.
A Slovenian hiker who was recently on Golem Korab contacted me and gave info he slept in
private pension at the cable car in Mavrovo, Caffe Restaurant Campari, Goran Manojlovski, 042 / 388 109 or GSM 070 / 251 005.
Price very low; he mentions 8 EUR per night. I'll call the pension later.
Friday morning drive to base of Golem Korab and then about 5 hours hike to summit and 4 back.
We'll hike as fast as the slowest can manage.
After mountain direct to Ohrid.
In Ohrid I'll find hotel, motel or better apartment to sleep.
When I know exact number, I'll start looking for accommodation.
Evening short Ohrid tour and sleep.
Saturday morning coffee in Ohrid, breakfast then slowly to Greece. Plan 3-4 hours drive to LITOCHORO, closest town
to our start. From there by car to PRIONIA start (attached photo of sign from 2002).
Then on foot to hut that can host 100 hikers. Trail about 3 hours. Here first-hand info from Greek hiker:

Sleep in hut. Bring sleeping bag (as suggested by Greek hiker)
Sunday morning to summit, about 3 hours hike. Then back to start and options:
a.) to LITOCHORO (18 km from PRIONIA), seaside tourist town, rent apartment or hotel, swimming, beer,
b.) back to MK to OHRID or SKOPJE (save money as MK cheaper than GR)
c.) back to SLO, rotating driving as we'll all be tired
Contact your friends, acquaintances and colleagues if anyone wants to join. I think we'll have more fun with 7-8 in
van than just 4 in car. Especially drive will be more interesting and pass quicker.

Visit to the highest mountain of Greece Mitikas 2918m we start at Gortsia 1100m second car we drive to start point. We ascend to Petrostrouga hut, path goes through forest and is well marked. There we rest a bit and watch goods delivery with horses or hut supply. Above hut open views to hills, sea... we are going well on foot and soon to next huts which are close to each other, head to our Giosos Apostolidis 2697m, where we will sleep too. Part of team climbs to house peak where stone sanctuary, part rests and waits for decision summit same day or next.... it was indeed covered in fog. After about 2h it clears and all we head to Olympus summit. Initial part on scree no obstacles, when we reach ascent gully caution needed. Markings solid and ascent no problems, some passage we find our way, seems easier. Helmet on head very recommended, mandatory, although most hikers do not have it ...
Joy on warm summit, snack and chat, photographing... slowly careful descend to hut, food in it excellently prepared and very tasty, staff quickly cares for all hikers....
Second morning head to Spilios Agapitos hut 2100m where we get stamp from summit upon presentation of proof, photo from summit to start point... Nice unforgettable tour

On the highest Greek mountain Mytikas (2917 m) we were on 15.10.2024. We had ideal conditions for the ascent. From Prionia we ascended to the Spilios Agapitos hut and from there to the Skala summit. To here the path is easy, from here on to Mytikas the path is unprotected, traverses and ascends on a precipitous slope. If it were foggy or wet rock, we wouldn't decide for the summit ascent. We were happy we reached the summit.

Too bad most skip Stefani, hut below it, and Skolio. Because my buddy and I waved friendly to the hut keeper from Stefani, we were rewarded with free ouzo and a firm handshake

This weekend I'm heading to Mytikas. Starting from Prionia. If I understand correctly, two paths lead to the summit. One from Skala along the ridge and one through the gully.
Those who have been there. Can you share some experiences on one or the other path? Haven't decided which one to choose yet.

I was there about thirty years ago, so from memory. The night before my buddy and I slept in Agapitos hut, to there from Prionia, to Prionia by taxi. Hut booked in advance. Next day to the summits in Olympus massif. First to Skolio, from there to Skala, descent through the gully, then to Mytikas and for grand finale Stefani, which was the most demanding from memory. During descent from Skala I missed a helmet, still vividly remember how much I would have liked it, from the ascent to Stefani the last few meters to the top remain in memory, maybe grades like weak II-, but quite exposed, deep below you see the hut (forgot name). After descent we went to that hut, where the keeper congratulated us and treated us to ouzo, said that few approach that summit and it's no joke. Great memories.
Strongly recommend if you have some experience to do all four summits, great tour. We had excellent weather, which is rare, saw the sea and whole massif, often lumpy clouds appear already in the morning.
Except Stefani all with poles, also gully downhill, there crowd and falling rocks, maybe quickly similar to path from Kamniško sedlo to Okrešelj.
