Omiš lies in the heart of Dalmatia at the mouth of the Cetina river into the sea, about 20 km further from Split, under the mighty walls of Omiška Dinara. The town is known for two pirate fortresses - Mirabella and Fortica, from which a huge area on land and sea was monitored back then. In August, the locals stage a pirate battle that revives the town's history and attracts many spectators. Omiš is also the birthplace of klapa, where a festival of Dalmatian songs takes place traditionally every year. If you want to spend your vacation actively you can choose between rafting, free climbing, hiking, diving and sailing, or test yourself in an adrenaline descent over Cetina (zipline). Opposite Omiš is the island of Brač, which you can reach by boat to the famous Zlatni rat beach. We stayed in Galeb camp, which is right by the sea at the beginning of Omiš. The camp has a restaurant, nearby there is a shopping center, and it's less than a kilometer from the town center. It offers a lot of shade, and the beaches are sandy. We walked a lot and certainly took advantage of the wonderful weather. Photos at the link: http://matevzlavric.blogspot.si/2017/08/omis-gusarsko-mesto-v-srcu-dalmacije.html Best, Matevž
