Palec, Spring Flower - northeast gully

The gully is avalanche-prone and will have some smaller avalanches in the next warm days. Yesterday in it some minor collapses, in hard snow and on avalanche debris, higher above the break in the demanding steep slope above the drop also some unpleasant wind-deposited ''powder''. The gully gets sun right in the morning, so I recommend early start from the Austrian border crossing at least at five o'clock, if not earlier. It is very long and maybe the longest in the Karavanke. Also very beautiful, enjoyable and with nice view on Košuta ridge. It also got a nice name, Spring Flower. More about yesterday's conditioning in Spring Flower in pictures and comments on the link below. https://picasaweb.google.com/113805105178377351223/PalecPomladniCvetSeverovzhodnaGrapa3003201402#

Tejama, you have .gpx track in post before yours so you see the route. Otherwise go from Austrian side of Ljubelj, gully is kind of blue dashed line from right looking at Palec summit (and which has Y fork).

Right after border post sharply left towards Pamž farm. Before farm at right bend to right through the forest road to fork at ditch. Then on track to entry. This with GPS tracks went totally over all limits...

By which path do you descend? Thanks.

Wherever you like. Easiest is to descend to Ljubelj and hitch someone to pull you through the tunnel by car.

Isn't that the Central Gully in the NE wall of Palec? Already in distant year '94, Iztok Tomazin skied it as first descent. Description from the guide Alpinistično smučanje: "From the Ljubelj border crossing on the Austrian side, one and a half km descent to the big support right bend above Ridovec. Here we turn left from the main road past the farm at Kuhar and on to the bridge. Continue towards the northeast wall of Palec. You don't enter the central gully directly, but along the slope from the left and then into the gully. Along it somewhere to the middle, where the gully bifurcates. The central gully here turns left (and continues towards the summit ridge)."

Excellent! Thanks for pic 2, it'll go into memory when this trip finally comes around. Was there any suspicious snowpack anywhere on the route, given all the wind and the still ongoing 3rd level?
