Path Pot po robu (Col-Predmeja)

Today we fulfilled my big wish and hiked the Path along the Edge. First ascent from Col to Kovk then long but beautiful strolling along the summits above Vipava Valley, past Otliško okno to Predmeja. Officially approx. 5 hours, but it's worth taking more time to calmly enjoy the wide views and feast your eyes on blooming svišč and auricula.

How to return to starting point?

We went with two cars and left one at Predmeja, with the other to the start at Col. Of course it's possible on foot both ways, but then it's more training than an enjoyable walk admiring flowers, views, natural window, stone snail, hospitable homestead under Sinji vrh visit ... Or try hitchhiking.

This wonderful path I'd like to repeat - can someone tell me if there are perhaps any obstacles due to fallen trees?

From Predmeja to Otliško okno no problems, I think there shouldn't be at the start either.

Does anyone know if there's still any snow on the path from Ajdovščina to Otlice and then along the edge to Col? What's the path's condition?

There are a few snow patches on the path, mostly on flat parts. Footprints on them are packed, I was yesterday in sneakers and had no problems. Otherwise the path is mostly dry.

Thanks, Andi77! But I must say I hiked the path today too, no special difficulties - recommend poles (for descent) if descending from Otliško okno back to Ajdovščina - I went to Col. The view wasn't very nice though - mežikanjetoo bad!

On Sunday after the meeting with participants of the Hribi.net forum anniversary celebration and the excellent cake, we decided to extend the return path a bit to the starting point at Hubelj spring nasmeh. We hiked the *Path along the Edge* all the way to Grapa or the saddle where the road from Primorska swings to Notranjska. For the return we chose an unmarked path that steeply leads back under the slopes of the Karst edge to Hubelj spring. It turned out that this path is very wrongly drawn on the latest Nanos 1:50.000 map (2007). The GPS topo map Adria route is also not aligned with the actual state. Some tips for potential users of this path.... From the saddle *V Grapi* not far from the Ressl monument, at the benches turn left in the direction shown by the signs … Korita. Always keep to the left path. After approximately half, we cross to the asphalt road. Continue on it for a few 100 m and at the unmistakable hut on the rock turn right under the road to a poorly visible path. Later it turns out that this is an old path from the 18th century. When we cross back to the asphalt after some time, unfortunately we need to turn left uphill on this road. After approx. 300 m of asphalt, at the upper end of the sharp bend a new gravel path appears on the right, leading towards Hubelj spring. At the end of this road you can shorten a bit more on the hiking trail, but in no case is it much further to the spring. Hope this helps someone nasmeh

Small Otilško okno. The path through it is not marked but not too difficult5
Large Otliško okno. An easy unmarked trail leads through it.6

There are many passages across pastures. This one is more garishly colored18
This passage is more of the *bio, eco* variant ... :)19
At this time there are plenty of blue and yellow flowers20

The unmarked return path turns out to be an ancient path with markings from the 18th century22

Very interesting and unusual relic in the chapel24
How the Gorenjci ended up here I have no idea :)25

On the 2007 Nanos map one cannot rely in this case. The dashed return path is incorrectly drawn.28

We hiked the path many times, but obviously there are still some hidden corners we didn't know about. Thanks.

The best way to do the Trail along the Edge is to have transport waiting at the end of the trail, so I signed up for an organized hike with PD. The trail is definitely worth seeing, I'd say even multiple times. At this time spring is awakening here and we saw quite a few spring flowers.
The trail is also exemplarily equipped with summit signs and at the same time notices about summits ahead and also back. We crossed quite a few summits, really didn't know there were so many. The first was Dolski Maj, followed by Otliški maj, then Črne stene, Pravi vrh, Podrta gora, Kraguljc. In between we also looked back at Sinji vrh, saved Kovk for another time. Čaven was a constant in the views back.

Nice views all the time also to Vipava Valley, but to the sea in the distance not this time.
