Path through Svečinske gorice

Today in the far western part of the Slovene Hills and therefore hiking on ,,Path through the Svečinske Hills,, specifically with the desire to complete the entire trail in one go. Started in Spodnja Kungota at the Fifolt inn towards Piberčnik, under Brloga, Repolusk, Plački vrh, Ciringa... and returned circularly to Spodnja Kungota from the Brunček farm in the ravine via Kozjak. Connected Vrezner and Dreisibner farms directly and skipped Kopica. The trail is excellently maintained by the markers of PD Maribor Matica.

Total 36-37 kilometers and a few minor mistakes after the Vrezner farm on the path, because I walked from Vrezner onwards for the first time. Beautiful views and similar to Šentiljska path also right on the border with neighboring Austria.

Terrain mostly dry today and ideal for walking due to slight cloudiness and gentle cooling wind.

Maybe another return...

Lp bruny

Super route for one day... especially the middle part is interesting, when along the path there are lots of vineyard farms, for a stop for a deciliter of red wine. nasmeh

Yes really, the stops were also at vineyard farms for a short chat but on Sunday I was only on mežikanje ,,bleifrei,, - homemade apple juice from svečinske farms was completely sufficient...
To some of the interesting points of my paths I usually return with the whole family for a shorter trip and then a deci or two of red is no problem...

Although these are not real mountains, in such weather as we have these last days, even visiting the hills of NE Slovenia is a real pleasure. The Svečinska path offers a lot, it is extremely scenic, walking or running on it is a real blessing, and it is excellently marked - thanks to the markers of PD Matica Maribor. Although not circular, you can get back to the starting point without trouble, easiest with a little help from locals in choosing the nearest path. Locals are very friendly, at every point with a stamp they offered me free drink, the lady at Repolusk under Plački vrh even honored me with a just baked divine krof miško.
The entire path covers about 45 km, very suitable also for running, as there aren't many long ascents.nasmeh
Start of the path at Fifold in Sp. Kungoti1
The maypole is already standing ...2
Do you still remember, comrades?3
Also through these areas the Jakobova pot probably leads ...4
Pohorje also looks within reach ...5
Nice chapel with a bench for rest ...6
Where else can you find a painted window on a chapel with Knafelc's marking?7
Old times ... but it fits well these days ...8
Weekend patriot ...9
Someone has to tell us ...10
Good company ... :)11
Chapel at Brloga, which is also a point of Šentiljska pot.12
For quite some time we stay right on the border...13
Plački vrh14
Spring has fully arrived ...15
It is a pleasure to walk through this greenery ...16
Svečina ...17
The marker for this path doesn't look very hiking-like ...18
It still holds up ...19
We are already above Zg. Kungota, now just towards Braček ...20
The green path leads me ...21
To Urban another time ...22

Today through the Svečinske Hills in snow, quite a bit also on asphalt, from Fifolt to Brloga, Plački vrh, Ciringo to Svečine. Soon mud is coming as today it was very south-facing, snow isn't much either. Hills (vineyards) can be beautiful also in winter. L.P.

In my opinion one hour you ain't got much walking..... just turn on Geopedija a bit and compare paths.... costs you real little....

Personally, I would go from Šentilj and end in Cirknica or vice versa, and a nice ,,Y,, would form. Along the path there are quite a few interesting points... settlement Šentilj, tank by the former guardhouse, border stones, Brlog chapel - highest peak of Šentilj municipality... On the Svečina path you walk only between Brlog and the tower on Plački vrh... the rest or much more is on the Šentilj path... Well, time is relative, but since you'll want to see and photograph something, it will take longer. Train connections are a question, and maybe it's better to start in Cirknica and end in Šentilj, where there's more to see... Lp

From the railway station, go along the main road towards Austria; after the viaduct A.C., you'll notice signs for guesthouse Pod Brlog. When you reach the guesthouse, it's marked ahead to Pl. Vrha. One hour will be enough. You can go along Šentiljska of course, but in that case you go "around arse in pocket". The Plački vrh topic is on page 2 anyway.

Yesterday I chose this path from guesthouse Fifolt and the full loop through Svečina Hills. Beautiful landscape and exemplarily marked path. Only the scorching sun bothered us during the day, so we almost gave up. But we persisted to the end nasmeh

On Saturday finally, first time in Svečina in Slovenian Hills. In these beautiful wine regions, sunny, friendly people, hike on Women's Day... Homesteads and vineyards are exemplarily arranged. We have options for hikes of various lengths; this time we walked about 11 km and visited seven homesteads. Everywhere we were extremely hospitably welcomed, we tasted a little, socialized and chatted. Part of the path is on the road, part among vineyards, one part on the Slovenian side and partly on the Austrian. Almost at all homesteads we were greeted by accordionists too. In short, it's nice among friendly and relaxed locals. At Elšnik we had lunch, the stew smelled good, fried chicken legs with salad too. Chocolate cake at young brides wonderful. Couldn't see everything, so I must return to Plač, viewpoint tower, and also to the famous heart this time it didn't work... Thanks to my team for persistence, that I peeked into these places for the first time, surely soon again...

This path among the vineyards is interesting. It's a shame for the Dreisiebner farm, where you have to pay a not insignificant "entrance fee" for viewing the "heart". Many have grown tired of collecting various parking fees and viewing fees.

This time we turned towards Styria, more precisely to the Path through the Svečinske Hills. We hadn't hiked here yet, but it had been on our radar for a long time. Partly due to the interesting length, partly due to the unknown places, and we also didn't forget the famous little heart. Enough reasons therefore to head off on a long drive to the starting point nasmeh.

We started in Sp. Kungota and began walking counterclockwise. We didn't notice any dedicated markers, only the classic hiking trail markers guided us. A digital map was also helpful, showing the Svečinska trail in full. At some points it was the only aid, as without it we would have strayed in the wrong direction. In places there are no markers at all, or they are so old that they are hard to spot.

At the Dreisiebner farm with the famous heart we were about halfway and it was time for a break. The otherwise friendly hostess nearly had a nervous breakdown when I, as a pure-blooded Gorenjec, took a free photo of the heart. Despite pre-ordering drinks and food, I was subjected to intense moralizing, which I stoically nodded along to. Let everyone judge their own experience with this farm, but it left a bad taste for us. A completely different story was in Svečina, where we were quickly served in the village inn, with a friendly word and a smile on the face nasmeh.

The day was passing and the kilometers were piling up quickly. We walked along the opposite side of the valley, which might not be as scenic as before, but still offered views. There was almost too much asphalt, and we were really glad when we spotted Sp. Kungota. It went much easier back to the starting point, and we completed the loop just in time before evening.

Coordinates of the starting point (Sp. Kungota): 46.6053503N, 15.6484869E
A long day lies ahead of us and the early hour, the golden hour will be very handy.1
We park at the new intergenerational sports center in Sp. Kungota.2
Some identical info boards are placed quite close together, but specific signs for the Svečinska path are not visible.3
View of morning Kungota. We will return on the opposite side.4
Parking spot for everyone named Duhovnik :)5
Church of St. Kunigunda, past which we just went6
Markings are there and aren't. Further on it's the same in places and GPS track comes in handy7
On this area the path is poorly traceable, but victory is ours :)8
Characteristic of these places … house here, house there, usually more scattered than larger settlements9
Lots of asphalt. In the end it turned out that there is little gravel of other surfaces10
Consequences of the recent snow damage are also noticeable. Many new power poles, in places emergency solutions still visible11
Another characteristic, lots of poverty. People live in this house and we notice similar things several more times during the day12
But the path through Svečinskih goricah is quite scenic, so we don't really get bored anywhere :)13
Almost 30 m high tower on Plačkem vrh14
View from the tower. The farm is on the Slovenian side, behind the trees is already Austria15
Made in natural size16
Willows are just before leafing out, in shady spots there is still snow17
View towards Austria18
Snow damage caused a lot of destruction. This is just a tiny part for illustration19
Living space of an elderly man who explains the continuation to us in dialect. Of course we have no idea what he says, but we politely nod :)20
Nicer part of the path through Svečinskih goricah21
Prepared for spring :)22
Once again a view towards Austria23
We continue …24
Also uphill if no other way25
Find your way if you can :)26
First we pushed uphill, now it steeply descends.27
Along the path …28
The neighbors finally convince us :)29
Here too there are a bunch of paths.30
But the cross-border walk is short. Our intention is actually to visit the Dreisiebner homestead on the Slovenian side.31
Here lives the famous little heart, but the visit is not cheap. The turnstiles let you down to the viewpoint for 5€ per head.32
We continue with a short return through Austria, then we come across real proper themed markers.33
Now we are walking on the opposite side of the valley.34
In between we also visit Svečine, after which the path is also named.35
Svečinski castle from the 16th century.36
Muddy from cows. I can't imagine them in wet terrain.37
Along the path …38
Unbelievable, they still live here too.39
A bit bigger thing, Zg. Kungota.40
Fuel is running low, so we decide to visit.41
Here too we come across Svečinske markers.42
But right near Kungota is the most unkempt path, which runs through undergrowth and fallen trees.43
We follow the signs all along, but the impression of a neglected path remains.44
The left house has literally had its roof lifted :)45
Asphalt in front, asphalt behind, but the view is nice.46
Shadows are already long when we finally begin to descend into the valley.47
During the day I got quite warm, so it's properly hot for us in the sheltered spot.48
Spodnja Kungota49
At the endpoint towards evening. Behind us is a long loop.50
GPS track of the hiked trail. We covered 40 km and 1500 m of elevation gain.51
