Yesterday I went with PD Iskra Kranj to the extreme edge of Slovenia on the border with neighboring Croatia to the land of frost and bears in the municipality of Loški Potok. In the center of the municipality Hrib -Loški Potok the bus dropped us off. First we climbed a small hill above the village, where at the church of St. Lenart there is a view far around. Then we headed on a hike to the southern side of the municipality to Petelinjek. Initially the path follows asphalt through several hamlets until at the hamlet Matevljek the asphalt ends. Here the real winter begins. Snow gets deeper meter by meter. The path is marked but not trodden. Follows arduous plodding through half-meter snow that sinks deeply. We change a bit in breaking trail to make it easier. We go slowly, because faster is not possible. An experienced local who knows the path well leads us. Somehow after an hour and a half we arrive below the cliffs of the Petelinjek ridge. We stop at the interesting cliff Votle stene. Weather is bad, lightly drizzling. Now comes the key part of the path, where one has to climb over a couple of demanding rocky jumps to the rocky ridge of Petelinjek. In this deep powdery snow it's even more demanding. Somehow we overcome these difficulties and find ourselves on the rocky ridge of Petelinjek. Up there a strong wind blows, so we quickly cross the rocky ridge with a few unpleasant jumps and descend at the other end of the ridge. On the way back in the village Travnik we view an interesting ethnographic collection at Bartol and refresh ourselves in the local inn Pri Kapcu. We rarely go to this part of Slovenia, certainly not in winter. It was a unique winter tour. Unfortunately, due to the weather, I couldn't take more photos.
