Picture of the week and month

I'm wondering what ,,key,, is used to select pictures of the week and month!? Is it based on the quality of photographs or captured locations? Practically only Julijci, already quite a few fewer KSA and Karavanke, the other world  obviously doesn't exist. East and south of Trojan ,,picture blackout,,... Really these aren't some heights, walls, overhangs... but still I assume something could be found already based on percentage of posts and added pictures... Lp

They are selected automatically based on user ratings, number of views.
But I'll change it a bit in the near future because I think some rate quite unrealistically.

Yeah, ,,that's how it is,,. From now on I won't post more pics or symbolically one old pic so the post isn't without pics. Don't know if you ,,discriminate,, us from the east right of Geoss or Trojane or what!? And among all pics over many years I think there was only one - maybe I'm wrong and that's Black Lake on Pohorje. So no one thinks I'm forcing myself or something!? but my pics aren't that extra anyway, because I don't focus on that. But I think some photo from Pohodnik 38, lajcicarja, stankaju, Hribovca 88 and others could be found... Throw Julijske, Kamniske and Karavanke out for four, five, six weeks or months and let others participate too Primorska-goriska, Skofjeloško-cerkljansko... Please thumbs up me if you agree so forum owners and admins take it seriously. Lp and no offense...

I've contributed thousands of pics myself and don't know if any made it there, but the fact is cameras make such weird unreal pics that you have to experience it in the mountains.

Well, bruny, no need to get mad at the admin As far as I know, pics of the week and month are those with the most good ratings (stars) from forum readers/viewers in a period (week, month). So admin doesn't choose them, but all of us or those who click stars. Under each pic it shows how many ratings... Now why some get more good ratings and some not, probably several reasons... and if memory serves, there was a debate about it years ago.
But with stars it's similar to thumbs up... not necessarily reflect the best, sometimes more "likeability" of the author.

In good morning! Everything written is clear to me of course from Rok's answer on 12.10.2012 but there should still be a system so that occasionally a pic outside Julijske, KSA and Karavanke breaks through...Of course Julijske have most views and consequently votes too - wouldn't say voters rate unrealistically...Maybe I was misunderstood - not arguing about quality of week/month pics but about geographical representation. Even a top master could probably post pics as it's logical somehow...Julijske currently have 733 open topics while Škofjeloško, Cerkljansko and Jelovica on the other side only 41 topics if you count responses...yeah practically no chance. I changed the image rating system some time ago so that not every rating is equally valuable anymore. How important a rating is depends on who is rating and also whose image is being rated. The main purpose was to devalue intentional bad ratings and in some cases also overly good ratings.
Regarding geographical coverage of images, I can try to adjust it a bit so that for image of month/week the ratio of views and ratings is considered more. Meaning, an image with fewer views would need fewer ratings. I could also add a section with images of the month for individual ranges.
Some were also interested why a certain image is selected even if another has more votes. Number of votes naturally affects selection positively, but rating is also important. By the image the rounded value is shown with stars. Meaning 10 stars have all images with rating from 9.5 up. For a 9.5 image to be selected it needs quite a few more votes than the 10.0 one. Image of month also can't be one uploaded e.g. 2 months ago.

Who rates whom, meaning my click on the star can count less than from some other mountaineer.
It bothers me that you don't know who is the author of the selected pic nor where it was taken. Of course except images where exactly known where taken (Triglav summit for example). If just pic from path to some mountain or view from top then don't know where, can check his other pics from that day. Or can check and I don't know how

Is it by the criterion who is logged in longer on hribi.net or what..
Many users register just to post a small ad. When you check their profile, you see the number of posts:1.
Most of us are serious, but which ones seem more serious to you than others?

@Irina could be something like that, I have so many black dots up here like Pikova Nogavička's pony But it really doesn't seem fair to separate us by who and whose images they are. Everyone who posts images deserves a star, not checking who uploaded it.

The purpose is exactly the opposite. Namely it often happened that some image had all tens, then someone comes who gives ones to all in a row and pulls down the average. Or in cases where some user doesn't like you and intentionally gives you bad ratings only. Such ratings now have less value.

Why not just numbers instead of stars on images? I have the feeling that some just "by memory" click on stars and don't think that each star represents a different rating! And thus unintentionally pull down someone's image rating.
Better in my opinion would be two options - whether you like the image or not. Don't know why to rate it with a rating if I like it anyway!

cca 5000 clicks on this page: http://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=1&id=5304&stran=1 and only here and there some vote, one of the nicest pics, the view from the path to the Martuljek Mountains, has only 1 vote, most likely if someone else posted this who is an exemplary writer would get 10-20 votes, if not more. But I don't bother too much with it, just want to mention/remind of this tour, because it's very nice there. On FB they appreciate it much more! If stars then max 5/image!!!

Someone also intentionally, I think, pulled down ratings of images that don't have many votes, but surely not trash, nor top-notch. If it were possible to give one user more votes available, it would surely pull some ratings right to the bottom.

Yes, only now have I realized that there is also a section for selected photographs.
The selection is very interesting and says a lot. Some photographs are really good in composition and chosen moment. For some I'd wonder how they won, because they don't stand out in anything. It would be even more interesting to see what the competition that dropped out was.
Maybe for these latter ones it's even more annoying that it's not even known where they were taken and who the author is. Both should be stated. At the same time, I'm really missing some authors.
Of all the photographs, which are classics of sunrises and sunsets, and panoramas, I like Anuk and Hermelinček the most. Anuk, because he's a real poser and Hermelinček, that one is a gem. Capturing him in the lens is really great luck.
And about rating. Someone already mentioned the + or - rating system, like with comments. Rating with points is very relative. What is oh and ah for one is uninteresting or nothing special for another. Ah, that's just my personal opinion.
