Planica and Borovje

Yesterday a spring tour, past Hartman's cottage on an easily traceable path uphill to the saddle. At the saddle sharp left and steeply up the ridge (straight ahead goes, at least initially, a gentle path towards Kepa). Even in dry weather some caution is needed just below the top, the precipices below us not friendly at all. From the top of Planica wonderful views with the Julians almost in the palm of the hand. On return at the saddle continued straight instead of the same path back to the start. After a short ascent also reached the top of Borovje, which also serves wonderful views... and a bench... for the soul... mežikanje

In the Karawanks foothills, this quite sandy world, I always gaze again.
So Borovje and Planica have been on the list of desired peaks for quite some time, since I first heard about them and looked at the steep, winding narrow sandy path past rocky outcrops, which is supposed to be a bit exposed to risk.

Stanko Klinar mentions both peaks as the vanguard of Kepa, but of quite secondary importance and does not recommend visiting them.

So in order, first right, then left.
So first Borovje, which gains prominence with the mighty cross rising right on its edge, as it also allows a view right into the heart of the Julians, which are still under snow cover at this time. You can look across all three valleys that lead to the highest.
When you turn around, your eye lingers on Kepa, which is certainly the queen of this trip, as views stick to it all along the path, attractive at every step.
But there was no sitting long on Borovje, the thought of what the further path can offer was stronger and beckoned further.
And indeed the path to Planica was even more attractive, a bit down and a bit up, then across under the ridge, and along the ridge, that you marvel at how cleverly and scenic it is routed. And full of pink wreaths along the path, so you didn't know what to admire more, the fragrant scents or the wonderful views opening above the path, best bothnasmeh.
If I had to choose just one peak, I would unhesitatingly choose Planica, because not only is the path leading to it beautiful, but the summit itself delights, which is just spacious enough for sitting and admiring.

After the tour, also a visit to the via ferrata in Mojstrana, so that the beer at Aljaž is more deservednasmeh.

Hello!

I'm interested in a circular path to Borovje and Planica.

ascent to both mountains:
http://hribi.net/izlet/brinje_planica_cez_borovje/11/554/3393
descent from Planica (contra):
http://hribi.net/izlet/brinje_planica_cez_vrse/11/554/949

Given this year's quite extensive devastation in the forests, I'm wondering if it's currently possible to reach the above-mentioned Brinje starting point with a personal car normally?

I see it's completely unmarked paths without the usual hiking marks. But is this circular path still reasonably visible or recognizable with the help of some cairns and such? From a few photos here and path descriptions, it looks promising. So have hribi.net descriptions and photos at hand, a bit of care and it goes, right?

Thanks for help.

Ločanka (8.5.2018) noted next to the second picture (which is almost certainly taken on the road from the intersection to the Vrse saddle) that you can drive there by car too. You can ask her as well.
From my experience, the paths to Borovje and Planica are well traceable, marked here and there, and the mentioned descriptions are good enough. A map always comes in handy nasmeh

Borovje yesterday.. Started at the cairn, then over Vrse saddle and along the ridge path. Borovje is a nice panoramic peak above Dovje. The forest is already full of leaves and the little paths are not visible. When crossing from the ridge, if you don't know the path, you struggle to reach the saddle. You can drive almost to the Vrse saddle by road. I left the car at the first intersection, and there are more parking spaces further on. Nice..nasmeh

Any more dangerous, harder to pass sections on this path, especially during ascent to Borovje? Or better to saddle between both and from there to both?

I could go many places, but since I go less often, I prefer some unconquered peaks, this time due to time limits not the higher ones. Borovje and Planica right now just nice viewpoints for me. I would hike Saturday between 11 and 15, forecast clear but colder than previous days.

Since coming from far to these parts, interested in some info:

Is road to Brinje start at ca 1050m OK without snow, ice?
How much or can be snow/ice on hike http://hribi.net/izlet/brinje_planica_cez_borovje/11/554/3393
on more critical sections?

Without this info better not go far from home. If not been there, maybe nearby at this altitude. Or visible from valley or nearby mountains, hills, where winter conditions are.

Thanks for help.

I was on Borovje on Sunday.
With a normal car you can't even get to the junction (Tromostovje - Brevant). Fastest from the valley (Dovje). The ''path'' from Vrs (pasture, 1200m) to Borovje is mostly snowy but trodden, no problems. Towards Planica from Vrs probably no one has gone since the last snowfall. But from Šija 1 (saddle between Planica and Borovje) to Borovje steeper and harder. To Planica one can sink quite a bit, especially on the upper traverse.

FRANC60,
thanks for that info. Since I'm quite far from these parts and these two peaks are close, probably best to wait till spring or non-winter easier conditions for both points. And maybe then conquer something nearby higher.

Already on the previous visit to these two peaks, Planica pleased me much more than Borovje, although you actually have to step on both. Somehow a bit more pushed among high mountains, the feeling is more alpine, more primalnasmeh. So yesterday we stepped only to Planica, stayed a bit longer there, observed the weather change on the mountain tops, but the autumn colors still glowed.
In the end we also drove to Erjavčev rovt, actually to the confluence of Žakelj and Mlinca, where we hadn't been for a long time. From our parking it was about 900 m.

18.10.. Borovje.. Strolling with retirees, hiking group Javornik Kor. Bela. Approach to the top from the saddle between Borovje and Planica. Easier than the ridge path. Many hikers, at the top wonderful mists awaited us. Mists everywhere, only the ridges of the peaks were on display. The path is nicely traceable and to the saddle also well trodden. Further ahead a more careful step is needed, because the ground is already wet and the roots too. Nice.nasmeh

Today from the junction before Brinje to Borovje. Then to Planica and over the Šija saddle and under Stanič (1274m) to the Kloma gorge. Some time along it, then right on the path to the road and to the car.

The ridge path to Borovje I somehow managed, just the sign on the ridge I didn't follow enough (should have gone more to the left), which consequently brought a recreational ascent directly up the pathless forest slope. Well, a bit below the top I found the path, it was even nicely made. On the mountain top it hadn't been so pleasant for me for a long time as today on Borovje. The influence of the friendly bench, warm sun in no wind and unique view simply can't be resisted.

I descended on the path towards the Šija 2 saddle. A centimeter or two of snow on wet leaves did require some caution, but it wasn't too bad. For balance, the path to Planica was dry, sunny and warm, those 150 meters of ascent were pure joy. The views from this top were also unique, just a bit foggy. Along the barely noticeable ridge path I sneaked straight to the Šija 1 saddle. There the path to Kurjek (1666m) branches upwards, down the path goes towards the Stanič pass. Somehow in the middle of this path I stopped a bit before a short passage over crumbling rocks and a steep gully below. I caught my breath and crawled over.

On the other side of the Stanič saddle there were about a hundred meters of real winter, then the trail that brought me to the remains of a building on Žakljev rovt (perhaps this pasture is only the lower part of Orlov - other name Vorvov - rovt).

The trail continues into the unique Kloma Gorge, which surprised and charmed me with wild waterfalls and rapids. The path follows approximately half of the gorge along its bottom, then continues along the steep banks on the right side of the gorge, then down and on to Tromostovje. Later I learned that passage is possible also along the very bottom of the gorge. There occasionally one can even find some peg for help. Probably sensible to take a rope.

From Tromostovje to the car it was a good ten minutes. Meanwhile the mountains had already dressed in cloudy darkness. No problem. Nice day that passed carefree discovering old, perhaps somewhat forgotten paths above Dovje, is already safely stored in the bag of memories.

Second time soon at the camp in Dovje and second time soon a tour to almost the same area jezik Well...not exactly...a bit shorter, but still partly exploring new terrain nasmeh

P.S. after a couple of comments last time, this time more "politically correct" velik nasmeh The thing of course refers to different namings of locations on various maps/descriptions.
