Planina above Vrhnika is the Vrhnika "holy mountain". That's where I started my hiking, mountaineering,... in short, that's where my mountaineering path and love for mountains began. Today we went with the family to Planina again after more than half a year. From the Tankovska road first along a narrow path, then to the houses on Storžev grič. Then past the old fruit dryer "Pri Storžu", along the middle path and we're already at the junction of paths towards "Špica" and past "Bukve". Here with the kids we turn left, on the longer but gentler path. The path ascends moderately and soon we're at "Bukvi", where there's a fork to the right towards Planina, straight ahead to Ajdovska stopnica or Blatno dol and Zaplan. After a few minutes of walking we already see the shelter on Planina with the viewpoint tower in front of us. The new tower, which they erected this year, is also completely safe for our youngest, of course with parents' supervision. From the top in clear weather there's a wonderful view from Krim to Nanos, Golaki, Triglav, to the Kamnik Alps and of course to the Barje. Ascent with kids approx 1 hour 15 minutes, descent 1 hour. Planina is really the "holy mountain" not only for Vrhnika people. Others also like to visit it. If you climb to it from Starga maln, it's quite a suitable ascent for building fitness. After about 300 meters from the hut the trail splits, straight goes to Planina a slightly gentler path past Lintverna, right steeply up over the ridge. This right trail is not marked and you have to notice it.
