Furioso look, there's a lot of beautiful nature where you walked and it would be more appropriate if you shared pictorial material about the path you walked. Usually, we all avoid posting direct close-up portraits. Don't take it badly, but we'd be happier with photos of pristine nature. Direct photos (close-up portraits) of fellow hikers keep to yourself.

That's at least my opinion.

I agree that portraits have no place in path descriptions. I also engage in mountaineering photography and some are also on www.summitpost.org (look: author "davor"). But I love Hribe.net not because of great quality or poster-like photos but because of INFORMATION. I think many photos (cca 40%) would gain a lot in informativeness if a human figure was included in the photo - especially if in a characteristic position (look at http://www.summitpost.org/images/original/295931.jpg - I don't know the women in the picture at all, but I think the picture without her would be much worse, empty and boring), silhouette or some detail of the hiker's gear or path. This is especially useful for everyone who plans to hike the path for the first time and doesn't know the path yet. In this way the photo gets a size comparison and slope of the path at that spot. A few examples:
1. example for inclusion of path detail - mark: "Path to Turska gora" from trip "Jermanca - Turska gora (via Kamniško sedlo)" - photo 29.
2. example for inclusion of human: "Ascent up the gully" from trip "Dom v Tamarju - Slemenova špica (Via Črne vode)" - photo 9.
3. example for inclusion of human and path detail: "Vertical descent to the notch" from trip "Bele vode - Viš / Jof Fuart (Centenary Path)" - photo 30.
And I end with an example of a photo which in my opinion gives no information to a newcomer on this path because it has no orientation (which doesn't mean the photo is bad for other purposes). Example: "The path ascends at the foot of mighty screes" from trip "Dom v Tamarju - Slemenova špica (Čez Črne vode)" - photo 13.
Warm greetings to all hikers from Davor from Bistra, Zagreb, Croatia.

Davorin, I agree with what you wrote.
I too, when I post photos of a path I hiked with company, have hikers on many photos. Often this is (as you described) necessary because of (depth, steepness, slope..) so that the person looking at it gets a feel for the path awaiting them.
I usually take shots so that the person I'm photographing doesn't realize it and those shots are the most beautiful for me (I also post most of them in my reports on hiked paths).
But posed photos we share among ourselves and don't post them (close-up photo of a person or several people, which actually represent the whole shot and the background is negligible).
That's just my opinion and I don't intend to impose it on other hikers who post on (Hribi.net)
I wish for as many described and hiked path photos as possible, because they are a great help to others who face the path for the first time, which they haven't hiked yet.

I found an old post on the topic of photos. It doesn't refer to the polemic that developed regarding the number of posted photos per post. Somehow it fits here.
My opinion on the number of photos posted:
On the net we have two most visited forums about mountains.
-PZS
-HRIBI
On the first, photos are almost not posted but usually only links to them, on Hribi photos.
The forum on PZS pages is supposed to be more for experienced mountaineers, there are many pathless routes and also descriptions of marked paths.
"Hribe" have been taken over by more amateur, weekend, family and also experienced mountaineers. Great emphasis on photography (which is also evident in posts).
That's how I see these two forums!!
Let it stay that way. Someone attaches more photos, someone just one or some that they consider important. Someone attaches almost professional photos, someone is still learning - that's good for them too when they see what kind of photos others make. Photo quality is increasing and that's right.
So let's leave HRIBI as they are! Let visitors post photos from their hikes (even if some more some less).
It's pointless to argue about this - like sometimes on PZS forum whole pages for trifles.

I fully agree with geppo! A picture sometimes says more about conditions than a hundred words. We go to the mountains for beautiful views, not for quarreling! And here we can relive a bit what others experienced, maybe get a new idea, a new perspective on the path opens up,... in short: everyone should photograph as they like, because everyone experiences the mountain in their own personal way. Whoever is bothered by photos, let them scroll the mouse wheel or go to PZS forum! Long live and develop HRIBI.NET!
