Protected trail No.630 "CarloPuppis"

This year we repaired, cleaned and marked where necessary the transit path between Mrzla Voda valley/val Riofreddo and Beli Potok valley/val Riobianco, No.630 "carlo puppis". Next would be (long) circular tour; Rajbeli-Mrzla Voda valley-protected path "C.Puppis"-Beli Potok valley/koča Brunner-saddle/forc. delle Cenge-Rajbeli. Start: in the middle of Rajbeli village/Cave del Predil park the car near the inn, then across the bridge (opposite old mine) and left on asphalt road first part and then on white road which leads towards Monte Re/Kraljevna Špica, here and there you get markings No.615 (this connecting path part is not yet on Tabacco map 019 marked in red with No.615, but will be in next edition), at last bend path goes left up to saddle/sella delle Cave, now down to Mrzla Voda valley across stream to white-forest road No.618 (approx. 1h and 15 min.), left and on along road and bends to one sign, path No.615 turns right, we go straight up still on path No.618 to place called Carnizza di Riofreddo, start of path No.630 "C.Puppis" (2 hours from Rajbeli), path now turns left and first protected part-30m rope-and then scree and gravel lead shortcut almost flat under rocks of Pan di Zucchero and Vetta Bella, again ascent on scree to rocks and start first part of protected path "C.Puppis"; trail now goes right well protected, good ascent on steep slab Vette Belle on rocks in lower part and meadow and through bushes on upper part to summit ridge; now new protected part runs on 50 m. exposed ledge and follows rocky crumbly ascent to high saddle Beli Potok/forc.alta Riobianco; difficult descent on crumbly rock, path leads on right side of gully near rock (look red dots) and soon to intersection path No.625, further down to koča Brunner (4 hours and 15 min. from Rajbeli), descent 15 meters below Brunner and turn left on path No.656 and soon across stream, follows steep ascent, in middle part still some protected meters, further up to narrow saddle (6 hours from Rajbeli), now descent and immediately 30 meters protected path leads to saddle Forcella delle Cengie, further down through kotanja-tokava and long trail through forest across ski slope and to Rajbeli (approx. 7 hours and 30 min.) p.s. sorry for writing errors. No posts here below, so let me dust off the path a bit. nasmeh

The description is accurate, nothing to add except that the times are very tight. You can easily add an hour or two. At saddle Cave be careful with small markings with sign 615. At the saddle itself there is a lot of fallen trees and some big markings are found too, which lead who knows where, if you even find the continuation. Cables on grass at start of path 630 (already higher, around 1400) are torn, need to cross carefully, below is deep gully where a waterfall is heard. The path 630 itself is OK, cables intact. I will still use the lower, old path at next ascent (markings are there, starts a bit over 1200 to the left. Here it goes only up, at the newer one you lose 100m. From Brunner I didn't return back up to saddle Cengie. That would add to already walked 1500m height probably at least another 400, if not 500. I descended rather to Jezerska valley and hoped not to have to go back all the way on foot along the road. Didn't have to, a friendly Austrian picked me up quickly. nasmeh

Otherwise a beautiful, long and solitary path.

Already 6 years have passed since we repaired the path, time flies, just today late afternoon from Mrzla Voda valley I went to check the path and exactly the start of the secured part eek

-your pic No.15- and I saw your tracks mežikanje

, thanks Lidija for info because I planned to check the Sella delle Cave pass too to see the situation for leading a group on the same tour as yours. nasmeh

I park at the former school in Rajbl, then to saddle Jama and through high wet grass to the head of Mrzla Vode. From there to the bivouac in Krnica Mrzla Vode, then back down and via the above-described path to Škrbina Belega Potoka. From Škrbina there is a somewhat awkward descent due to scree, lower I search for a traverse to the path leading to Lepa Glava, but without bushwhacking it doesn't go. Another attempt further on was unsuccessful because the diagonal gully leading to Škrbina Visoke Police looks different close up than from afar. I return to the path to Lepa Glava and descend on the nicely sawn path into Jezersko Valley. Some km of walking to Rajbel awaited me, no Austrian lady, no Italian lady, not even some Gorenjka velik nasmeh
