PZS Mountaineering Calendar 2016

In general, I like people. I like life even more. A special place in my heart is held by those with whom I spend my free time and experience adventures in the mountains. That's why it's probably logical that I like to see people and life also in photographs. Those I take myself, as well as others...

The cover and back page of the mountaineering calendar are adorned by my photographs, so I wrote a short story about how they actually came to be.

And if it's not too much, I'm really interested in your feedback on what you think?

anzecokl, "every eye has its own painter indeed...". My painter says these are really very nice mountain photos with a super feel for the scene and the moment of the shot. Hats off!

I think you could make a completely independent calendar from your archive with stories on the backnasmeh

Calendars always feature that kind of pictures anyway.

Not bad for the front page.
The contrasts created by sunlight together with snow, rock, shadow, clouds, crystals, icicles and much more are so infinitely changing and never even once the same, one could say unique then, which gives special charm to photographers as well as every mountain visitor.
In the marina at Trogir an experienced sailor told me that setting off to sea with a boat is always different too, never the same and can always surprise you, even with a lot of experience, which in critical situations still helps and plays a decisive role for safe return to port.

Nice pictures Anže.
I hope that this year PZS will be less sloppy than last year and publish the photo author under the pictures and what is in the picture (the second is not so important but it's nice to have).

The presence of a human in a mountain photo is certainly welcome, as it often shows the smallness of man compared to nature, and including a human in the golden ratio gives the photo the necessary dynamics and depth.
However, man in the mountains is not the only thing a photographer wants to present to people. It's nature itself, not just hills, but animals, flowers, forests, streams, waterfalls, starry sky, sunrises and sunsets etc ... etc ...
The calendar itself is nice, but I don't think it's any exceptional. Unfortunately, the recession is noticeable in this area too, and the editorial team unfortunately sticks to one photo and just the days for the current month. I'm sure an additional smaller photo showing the aforementioned images from the mountain world would liven up the calendar and wouldn't look kitschy.
"Throwing out" that someone has two photos in this calendar (he's not the only one) and thinks it's so important that he has to write about how he took the photos, seems a bit childish to me. No hard feelings.
Best regards

Nothing to hold against. Everyone ultimately has their own opinion, and the forum/internet encourages that. Why it would be childish to write a story about how a specific photo came to be, I don't know. After all, he writes a bit more about exactly that, that it would be desirable to more often write where and how the photo was taken or what's in it. I assumed based on myself, who is very interested in photography/taking photos, especially mountain ones. And consequently, curiosity often torments me about how someone photographed something, especially if the photo is good/interesting to me.

The selection of photos for the calendar doesn't seem very successful to me. The photos themselves fit into the same category and thematically a red thread runs through all months, but the processing is what, at least to me, doesn't evoke much aesthetic feeling. It would be wiser to have a calendar with images processed like e.g. the June one, and another that gives a more natural look; representatives of the latter are e.g. your photos. My personal opinion is that the latter would be more appealing. The month names also seem unsuccessful to me. The winter-fairy-like 'oyster' or rather claustrophobic reflection of 'January' on the white winter-fairy idyll and February, where instead of the name a red Ferrari could reflect in the lake and it wouldn't be any more pop-kitsch design, stung me the most. Interesting design detail where the designer plays with the colors of Sundays, which she apparently tries to adapt to the leading colors of the image, but when you think it's really original, at least on the PZS calendar, everything goes wrong and the numbers' colors no longer match the photo colors. Anyway, it's not bad, but I would expect that by the calendar's time it has advanced so much that it becomes more tailored to the mountaineer, whether alpinist or hiker, rather than remaining such an ordinary, general calendar.

Regarding aesthetics of shapes and colors (calendar, bivouac etc) there's no point arguing, regarding self-promotion (calendar, bivouac, etc) us Slovenes have a good proverb about self-praise. zadrega

I always buy it for the current year, price-wise it's accessible to everyone. The only shortcoming of the calendar is that it doesn't have moon phases and name days.

The pictures are very nice. But I don't know if I see poorly but it seems to me that the month on the pictures and the month on the dates don't match. (january picture - february dates)

Me too, right away. And I added some Sundays, returned all abolished holidays and moved New Year's holidays more to summer so I don't need winter gear for the mountains.velik nasmeh

Regarding the temporal and locational search for the right moment for a good mountain photo, Anže is certainly right.
A few years ago I observed an Austrian who parked with a large tripod at our best spot i.e. Slemena above Tamar. It was late spring, when the guy fidgeted on the top for quite a while, looked at his watch and observed the sun and shadows. When the lighting on the king of the Julians was optimal, he got to work. He later told me himself that he was looking for the best light contrasts for the photo of Jalovec.
Regarding photographer Peter's view of emphasizing exclusively nature and not human "foreign bodies" in it, that is probably the essential guideline for authentic mountain photography.

If you're making your own calendar, then there are no surprises regarding the pictures, which are your own choice.
