Raskovec - Matajur Peak - Poljan Peak

I do the tour from the coastal side. I start on the forest road above Rut. Through the forest soon to Jakarjev pesek where I decide on the ascent to Raskovec. I choose the harder right gully which gets me quickly to the ridge. I hop to Raskovec, then continue to Matajur Peak and on to Poljan Peak.
I descend by hunter's path towards Stržiška planina. From there back via hidden path to Rutarski forest.

Yesterday, in the Bohinj mountains closer to us.
Across the blooming alpine pasture Poljana to the Matajurc basin below Veliki Raskovec. From the basin we climbed pathless to the Vogel - Črna prst traverse and visited an unnamed peak with a cross and bell (a bit below the summit). Apparently they hold a mass there once a year.
Then we continued to Matajurski vrh; for the return, from the neighboring Poljanski vrh we descended to its northern edge and, searching for hunter paths through the scrub, arrived right next to the Poljana pasture. Continued to the area at Ventijah, where Bohinj hunters lost their idyllic hunter hut. Probably priests need it more nasmeh

Nice circular tour. Searching for passages from Poljanski vrh can be strenuous through scrub if not attentive enough.

Yesterday across pasture Osredki to Žalostnica basin, from there to Konjski, Poljanski and Matajurski vrh.

Yesterday circular path from Poljana to Poljanski, Matajurski vrh and Veliki Raskovec.
Return from Raskovec this time straight over scree.

Yesterday after the tour we were all of one opinion: not only the tour, the day was wonderful nasmeh

, not spoiled even by morning dew under peaks above Baška grapa. We believed in improvement during the day as forecast and boldly stepped into the pathless world and still snow-covered peaks at this time. We couldn't know exactly where snow awaited us on the path, so we took all prescribed gear for such conditions but didn't use it. We rather used the opportunity of ridge walking to avoid crossing steep snow-covered northern parts of peaks.

Well, the greatest sense of the whole tour was at its beginning, ascent over Jakarjev pesek and that was why the tour was actually planned, all else was just addition. But that it would develop into such wonderful traverse I really didn't imagine. So over Jakarjev pesek we climbed to the ridge between Novi vrh and Veliki Raskorec, ascended it, descended other side to marked path to Matajurski vrh but soon left it, climbed to its ridge and continued to summit. And since Poljanski vrh nicely invited us, we climbed it too nasmeh

We left peaks via southern slopes where we descended quite steep terrain to hunter path that led us right through wonderful world under rocky world of Matajurski vrh. We stepped also on top of Bizle hill which also served unexpected view to beauties of this corner of world.
We returned to path we left in morning but this time approached it from completely other side, without complications on tour which anyway not expected if you go with right company nasmeh

On whole path met only one hiker who wasn't anybody but legend of Slovenian alpinism who has behind most climbed eight-thousanders. And this meeting additionally beautified our day.

Ločanka, super trip, but I assume you didn't meet the Slovene with most climbed eight-thousanders (Roman Benet), but rather a Slovenian citizen with most eight-thousanders in the bag. nasmeh

Yes, it says: "right here the only encounter on the path, legend of Slovenian alpinism, Slovene with the most eight-thousanders climbed." So did you meet Roman? Roman Benet is a Slovene who has climbed all eight-thousanders, who lives in Italy.

They probably met Viki Grošelj, Roman Benet is somehow overlooked, although with his wife Nives Meroi he climbed all eight-thousanders. Regards!

For a long time I've been thinking about this approach along the slope to Matajur Peak. Started above Stržišče village. Walked pathless demanding ridge to Stanek hunter's hut. It's pretty steep! By road easier but long path. Above hunter's hut the path continuation appears. Followed to junction, at junction right and soon at point whether to go snowy gully with crampons or grass to summit. Put on crampons, ice axe in hand and to Matajur Peak. At summit not cold and sat there awhile. Later walked ridge with winter gear. Descended steep grass with crampons and ice axe to hunter's path and back to start.

Explored also path to Bizle, which then runs under magnificent wall. And further to ridge towards Poljan Peak. Continued on pathless ridge to Raskovec, ascended then descended by route used by alpinists for descent. Rock steps I-II grade. Chimneys too.

Yesterday to Osredki planina and via hunter's to Žalostnica basin. From there pathless to Konjski and on to Matajur Peak.
Return to saddle between Četrta and Črna prst and descent to Osredki planina.
Nice day, lots of flowers, but drought noticeable in places.

Hudajužna-Matajur Peak-Črna prst-Boh. Bistrica

Saturday morning by car to Gorica, hop on train to Hudajužna. From station go a bit further on main road to turnoff for Stržišče. Just before village turn left. On nice trackable macadam to Sanek, pause there. Above hunter's hut path poorly visible but can't miss as it's mulatiera from above. Little further to cairn marking path to ridge. Path nicely cut into scree, on grass ends. Could go up gully but snow rotten, so rather beside it on scree. On ridge end of the heat due to the wind. Towards summit still snow, so crampons for last 50m. After short break towards Črna prst. Expected more visitors there but none. For descent chose gully path as summer one still fully snowy.
End of day 23km and 1750m ascent
